We do the same with Roxy's! It's in her toy box and when she can have it I'll tell her to "go fetch red ball" and she stands by the box til I open it  Laughing  Vinny never took to his.

darcy has had hers since she was about 6 months, so far no injury, but they can injure themselves, we monitor play with it for this reason hun.

I was thinking about getting one of these

http://www.planetdog.com/orbee.aspx

Wow, these are expensive. But we're getting through a couple of balls a week here (large, solid rubber, about £5 each), so I'd love to find something more durable.

There's a single (5 star) review for the Orbee on the UK Amazon site from an owner of unspecified breed. However, there are many more reviews on the US site and here the truth starts to come out. Top marks from owners of labs, bloodhounds and Picardy Shepherds, but a low rating from a pitbull owner: destruction within 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure that tiger boy here would destroy in that kind of time. Or less.

Other balls we have tried but that are useless are: the Nobbly-Wobbly, the JW Ball (though destruction of this one was particular fun), and the Wiggly Giggly.  The BecoBall started off well, and had a impressively large circumference, but even if the outside was natural rubber, the innards certainly were not and the whole thing became a disgusting slobbery mess in under 10 mins. I threw away the indestructiball BEFORE destruction because, although still in tact, its surfaces had become razor sharp with many scores and grooves - if they cut my fingers I reasoned they could cut the dog's mouth or gums so I junked it to try and avoid another expensive trip to the vet.

The best by far so far has been the Large Bumpi by Petprojekt. We had a pink one and a blue one and, by using outside the house only, they may have lasted as much as three weeks. Eventually, even the Bumpis were destroyed and we are currently using the second best all-time solution, which is the Ruf 'n' Tuf football. I'll give it 7 to 10 days max, with care, selected use. Lying in the wings is a large Boingo Ball - that'll be next.

And as for the Kong: we say nice try but no cigar. If you do try out the Orbee, will you post a review?

Just make sure the tyre is not hanging to high and then he can keep his feet on the ground, also your dog is still alittle young, but with a smaller thinner tyre and the tyre hanging low it will just act like a game of tug to him
