Hi from Austin
Hi!
I am so happy to see a "nice" board for staffie's My name is Tara and I am mom to Axel, the staffie spoke's dog, and Shelly my staffie/catahoula cross. They live happily with 10 other fur sibilings of all breeds and work daily to try and change the public view of the breed.
Axel came to my training center as a last chance effort to save him and he has never left He currently works public events and is visiting low income communities to help spread the word that Staffies are the most versatile breed out there! He loves to demonstrate his agility, obedience, cart pulling and search abilities in hopes that he can get his brothers and sisters to do the same.
I look forward to chatting with some other staffie savy people!
Thanks for posting the link on our Fb page!

Hi Janey
I have been rehabilitating and researching canine aggression/communication for the last 23 years It is a fascinating field and a very emotionally rewarding one as well. All of my pack are rehabilitated aggressive cases. I spend a good majority of my time educating shelter staff, rescue groups and dog owners about how to identify true aggression verse reactiveness, as well as pack behavior, body language and rehabilitating the "unadoptable" or "last chance" cases. My boy Axel and I belong to the "pit bull" task force here in Austin and spend any free time we have educating the public about the bully breeds. Hopefully with enough research and awareness we will change some views, that is our goal.
It really is very nice to see so many bully breed lovers in one place

Re: Hi from Austin
Thanks so much for the welcome
Janey I had always been interested in how dogs communicate with each other and spent 3 years following a pack of abandoned domestic dogs, taking notes, videos, and audio recordings to learn more about their behavior and communication with each other. It has been a passion of mine since I was very young, my grandfather used to work with highly aggressive shepards, so I was intrigued to say the least at how they would repond to certain subtle changes he made with his body. It just grew from there Now I myself have a pack ( I will get the pictures up ) of dogs that help other dogs and humans understand the language better. I couldn't see myself doing anything else at this point, it never gets old
It can be hard at times, but it is still quite rewarding to see an owner finally understand why their dogs are acting the way they do.

Re: Hi from Austin
Sorry Lisa, just realized you had asked me about my profile pic! Its been a long day <laughing> yes that is my boy Axel. He is one of my hardest workers in the pack!
Re: Hi from Austin
That just sounds like my dream job, (instead of pulling pints all day!) Can't wait to see some pics of your pack and to hearing some of your stories and day to day experiences. You should do a journal and let us know what you have done in the day, it sounds fasinating and very rewarding. I adore the Staffie breed and do think they are very misunderstood so what you do is a benefit for everyone. Are there more people that do what you do too?

Re: Hi from Austin
I have an internship program and have 3 very passionate interns that I have big hopes for. I have not yet met anyone here in Austin that does what I do, but I hope to change that soon right now I am spread pretty thin going from Dallas-Houston and everywhere in between lol My hopes are that I can get my interns on the road to do some talks and community work by the end of the year and start a new round of interns in January.
I would love to share my work with you all, if you were interested. My days are 15 hours long and 6 days a week so a daily journal would be tough, but I could start posting some of my tough cases on here from the week (if time allowed) if you wanted to have an idea of what I do
