Duke "Barking"
Hi there!
Please tell me what you think of this.
We've recently adopted a staffie, he's about 8 years old (you can take a look at some of my other posts re. Duke's adoption and his voice on the Staffie Chat part of this site). He doesn't exactly bark, he makes these crazy noises!
I've been wondering if his previous owners had his voice removed? I really hope not, that's such a cruel thing to do. It doesn't matter to me what he sounds like, I'm just curious. Let me know what you think!
Thanks

Re: Duke "Barking"
Haha thats not barking thats excitment Cassie does this when she is really excited or if she is scared (different tones used),
You will notice a bark/silent bark if that was the case from the body language, he just seems really excited about something over there.
At the end that little woof was the cutest bark ever though really sweet natured boy i think and just hasn't found anything worth barking for, sinse i have had Cassie it was only last week she barked at a few tree's or something in the tree's I do not think his vocal chorde have been removed btw.

Well I don't know then. Do you think he'd be able to make those sounds if his voice had been removed?

Re: Duke "Barking"
To be honest, those noises sounds just like the ones Bandit used to make when he was excited about something, like when we picked his lead up & didn't immediately take him out!
I think he's so content that he hasn't had a need to bark yet!

Re: Duke "Barking"
gargling/breathy kind of noise would be common in those who have had their chordes removedErnestine wrote:Well I don't know then. Do you think he'd be able to make those sounds if his voice had been removed?
but thats not what he is doing, he seems very excited and lovable

Re: Duke "Barking"
That sounds like the common "Monkey chatter" noises that so many Staffy's have.

Re: Duke "Barking"
Oh my word that's horrible, I couldn't actually watch all of it, that's just too horrible! That poor dog!
Okay. Duke DEFINITELY still has his vocal cords, he sounds nothing like that. I think "seal" is about the best description so far.
Thanks for the help clearing this up Dannii, I was really worried, now I'm just so sad for dogs that have had to go through that.

Re: Duke "Barking"
OMG, I have never heard of this practice (quite glad of that actually), but after watching the links I am absolutely horrified. That must be so distressing for both the dog and their new owner.
One thing that really peeved me off was the fact that after these imbecile breeders "devocalised" the dogs, the got rid of them anyway. How do these people sleep at night..?
