Done it again!
Strange kid runs up to your staffie, what do u do,
a) jump inbetween them and tell the kid to ask before he touches
b) shout and ball at kid, then once the dad of the kid shouts at you, hav a go at him
c) nothing, and your dog is scarred or stressed or worse, nips at the kid and is put down
Well.........................................
a and b happened last nite and c is not on the agenda
the dad shouted at me (about his kid) "he's got something wrong with him, so i shouted back at him "well put him on an effin lead then instead of lettin him terrorise my dogs"
Wrong? temper too much? sorry for venting anger but OMG, if either jake or molly snapped at this kid, who would have been put down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
rant over
ty for listening

Re: Done it again!
I know what you mean. Dempsey is friendly enough, but only if you approach him properly, otherwise he's likely to growl. Several times kids have run up & tried to pat him without being calm. I do what you did, I step in between & just say, "You should always ask before you stroke a strange dog - he's friendly as long as you..............."then I tell them how they should behave.
But yes, I've had a few parents rant at me for having a go at their kids. I just tell them, would they rather the kids startle the dog & get growled at?

Re: Done it again!
janey the kid came runnin up to molly an tried to grab her, he was only about 6 or 7, now you know molly is a rescue dog and she's wary of kids, thats why i ran out shop an jumped inbetween then, poor fulton (my son) nearly floored the kid too,
i dont mind kids bein friendly but dont run up and try and grab, an then when the dad said he has something wrong with him, shouldnt he be a bit more wary of what his son does???
SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMSSSSS IN PURE RAGE, ok rant over again lol xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Done it again!
My neice is autistic and a real howler she is mental (i love it) but even she knows not to pet stray/strange dogs and she doesn't even act that way around my dogs she knows to be calm.
That guy should be teaching his son the same thing no matter what is wrong with him, what if it was a stray booted out for aggression then what would of happened the father would of blamed the dog rather than himself for not teaching his son.

Re: Done it again!
I haven't had it happen with Saxon, yet. Very few people walk up to me when I'm out with Saxon. I think I must look mean when I walk him because people walk up to the boyfriend on walks all the time!!

It seems the older billy gets, the less people some up to us, I suppose they are cute when they are puppies, to me though he is still gorgeous whatever his age.

Love itjaney wrote:Did you mean for him to put his kid on a lead cause that cracked me up!
We had a kid come up to us and everyone else in the park with a dog the other day. He was leading his own dog around and only looked about 8, with no adult person in sight. I suggested he keep his distance when he started approaching us, but he just ignored me, so I had to pull our dogs over and walk in another direction. There was an elderly gent walking his dog and I watched him do the same to him. This time the older guy was a little more forceful and I don't blame him. It seems that somewhere along the way no-one has taught this kid how stupid this sort of behaviour is.

Re: Done it again!
Educating kids about dogs is just as important as educating the owners, its just an accident waiting to happen
