Bailey's lil problem
hi guys
Just a little q really. Bailey (6) more than not dosent really get on with othr dogs. I mean don't get me worng, she wont go at them. She wont start a fight. If they sniff behind or if they come at here all excited, she WILL let them no to calm down. But some dogs being dogs, they snap back sometimes. That obviosly gets her all rialed up. then she will start. By this time, if she isnt already, shes on the lead so i can control her. Although its not a serious problem, I know when she does get moody she WOULD hurt.
a little about her. I got her when she was 4 and a half. She lived with a sort-of friend and her son so she wasnt totally mistreated. Just indeed of a longer/more walks. maybe fed up a bit mmore and a bit more attention. Needless to say she already had that super protective streak due to the child. Also from what I can make out... she didnt have a good time when she was a up as the lady got broken into and she got beaten up by 3 guys. (the dog that is). so she IS weary about men. very much so.
Again with the walks, maybe becuase she wasnt socialised properly?so the prtecting me thing? shes my baby. she is. I spoil her more tan i should. it is partly my fault very slightly becuase i spoil her so much. i shouldnt!!!!! Dpes anyone have any ideas to help with this or is just keeping the clip end of the lead in hand the only way???
Me and Baily thank you now for any sugestions.
Much love

Re: Bailey's lil problem
Steve's idea regarding men is a great one, try to build her confidence around men, regarding being unpredictable at times, I'd make sure other owners don't allow their dogs to approach yours without permission, not always easy I know, and if you teach her a strong watch me command then maybe you can distract her from the other dogs, my girl doesn't like to be sniffed when she's on the lead and can be a little unpredictable despite being socialised from an early age xx

Yes the male company idea is great, and also make her sit and stay, I always make Vin sit and watch me with a treat I also tell him good boy, which has always averted his attention from walkers and dogs who are passing

Thanks guys n gals. Looks like its just a case of putting it all into preactice again and sticking to it permanently... Thats fine with me aslong as she isnt getting herself into trouble! Shesalso one of those stubborn girls who at first will not listen even with a treat so ill be upset with my self for getting stern with her. but for her own good! lil trouble maker haha.
