Sleep Q Empty Sleep Q

Post by AussieStaff Mon Dec 30 2013, 21:15

Koda has been going to bed around 10pm each night, wakes once during the night typically & goes outside for toilet, then straight back to bed. At 5.30am he's wide awake and howling the house down so one of us gives up and gets up with him (after we both pretend we're still asleep in an attempt hoping the other will get up instead! lol). We're exhausted ! We can't stay up later than around 10pm when we go back to work soon, he goes toilet around the 3-4.30am mark most morn's, and sleeps in his bed with toys in our laundry (for now). The million dollar question is, is there a magic trick to getting him to stop howling the house down at 5.30am and us needing to get up for the day ? I'd let him howl and fall back asleep eventually if it wasn't for the neighbours, I'm sure they're sleeping a whole lot less now too !  Laughing  Thx peeps Smile

I know it won't be easy but I would try just leaving him to howl and see if he'll eventually stop. After a couple of days he should hopefully learn that the howling won't get him anywhere. We had our pup sleeping straight through with no accidents/howling within a week because we just didn't go down to him when he howled. It wasn't easy but so glad we stuck at it as he has been an angel ever since! Xx

When Sasha was younger, she was a nightmare we found that if we left the radio on a talk station really low it helped and we also covered up her crate with a blanket to make it a bit cosy and secure. She wad the same and whined at 5.30 every morning without fail until she was around 12 weeks. We always made sure that she was quiet before letting her out of her crate too to show her it was on our terms and not because she was whining. Sasha is 8 months now and puts herself to bed around 9 and we nearly always have to wake her up now lol. Believe me it doesnt last forever xx

Aw sorry, we have a little angel on that front. He was as good as gold from day 1 (unless we just never heard him! o.o) For the first few weeks I'd wake at about 6:30-7am to let him out, and it has slowly got later.
He now cuddles on the sofa in the eve and sleeps from anywhere from 9pm through to about 10am.
I was also told to not go to them when they whine/howl unless they are due a toilet trip. Maybe you could try take him out at 5am for the toilet and return him to his bed and leave him see if he settles like you do when he wakes in the night? He might get the idea after a couple of days Tongues

Do you leave her water out all the time?
I take Lucy's away about 7 pm if not earlier " depends on when I take her out for a walk.
