Wetting at night
Hi all
Bailey is now 26 weeks old and is still not dry during the night
Was advised that he still needed to be let our during the night so have been doing so
Started letting out twice then went down to once every 4 hours which for the last 10 days was doing really well
Then last night let him out at 2.30 and when I got up at 7 hour later than normal had cocked his leg and peed
My other staff was dry from 12 weeks so finding this hard as to what to do and what age he will be dry and what else I can do, vet suggested picking his water up like a baby so doesn't drink after a certain time not sure if his will help
Any advice please

Re: Wetting at night
I have only just managed to get him to go for walks as didn't like walking more than two houses even with treats or encouragement
So goes out once a day at moment for about 10-15 mins as then stops and won't move which is a big step for him and doesn't pee when out

Re: Wetting at night
that be your problem then all dogs need 2/3 walks staffy need IMO hour walks per walk while young you can slowly make it shorter the older the get
Re: Wetting at night
Even if he doesn't go for a wee outside on walks how will that help .?
Also I was told not to walk him for longer than 15 min per walk as can damage there bones as still developing till he at least a year is that not correct ?

Re: Wetting at night
6 month = 30 mins per walk
everytime you see him drink you take him out for an walk so he knows it where to go for an toilet

Re: Wetting at night
5 minutes per month of age is a general sort of rule of thumb per walk for puppies, so Bailey should be getting 2 or 3 20-30 minute walks per day.
Please don't restrict his access to water, it sounds like sense but isn't (sorry, vet ) You don't want to risk having a dehydrated puppy - his kidneys will be working anyway, and he won't even at 6 months old have full control over his bladder, especially if he's been used to being woken up in the night to go for a wee.
Where does he sleep, and does he actually wet his bed?

Re: Wetting at night
Maybe just pop the lead on him when you let him out of his crate and take him straight outside?

Don't worry about asking questions Donsey, that's what the forum is for - to help each other.
Steve's right, a routine should start to get established and in mho that should not include waking him at night for a wee. You need your sleep and so does he.
And as Sazzle says, take him straight outside the minute he comes out of his crate in the morning. You may get a few accidents at first because he's still young, but he will get full control of his bladder before very long.
