Stressing!
Hi all.
We are going to see family in Germany for Christmas and new year and had our little girl booked in to a kennels. Two weeks ago she was vaccinated against kennel cough however, yesterday and today she seems to have a little bit of a cough. We are going to take her to the vets this evening but now I'm worried that we won't be able to travel

Re: Stressing!
Could it be that the vaccine just given her a little bit of a cough? I've heard that that happens with flu jabs, you can get a bit of a cold after?

Re: Stressing!
We have just seen the vet. She said that If she has kennel cough it has been caught very early and it is very mild. She has put her on a course of antibiotics. Not looking like we will be able to go away now as we won't be able to Kennel her.

Re: Stressing!
When do you hope to travel? Even IF Kiara has kennel cough then the anti-biotics should clear it up within a week.

We fly a week in Sunday. She didn't cough at the vets and has only coughed once since we have been home.

The vet said that we shouldn't take her to a kennel as she could be infectious for up to 3 weeks. Really have no idea what to do for the best. Really doesn't help that we were supposed to be seeing elderly relatives and you never know when the last chance to see them is going to be.

I don't think so. Hopefully my parents will take pity on us and offer but I'm not holding my breathe. One of us staying and one going unfortunately isn't really an option. Such a shame as the trip has been planned for months.

Re: Stressing!
What a b****r for you, I do sympathise. I just hope that your parents will bite the bullet and agree to look after Kiara as so much depends upon it.

Me too. They said they will look after the cat but at least we still have a cat booked in to kennels should they change their mind. I know having a dog can result in this type of thing happening but I am gutted as I have been looking forward to this trip for ages.

Re: Stressing!
tbh if Kiara has got kennel cough it is obviously only a mild case and the anti-biotics should see it off very quickly. So if the only worry your parents have is about taking on a sick dog, please reassure them. Obviously a commercial boarding kennels might be wary about taking a dog in that may possibly infect other boarders with kennel cough (from a financial point of view) but failing your parents or friends, it might be worthwhile phoning around your local boarding kennels (or those local to your airport), explaining the situation and seeing if they would be willing to help you. Failing THAT, how about checking out quarantine kennels who keep dogs strictly isolated (eg for rabies prevention).
What can I say except to wish you the best of luck, and hope that someone comes through who can help you.

That's great advice, many thanks. Hopefully we can get something sorted.

Re: Stressing!
Most kennels will have at least one kennel that is out of the way or that is sectioned off. If they don't they're not avery good kenel. Ask yours.

Re: Stressing!
Great news! We spoke to the kennel and explained the situation and they are happy to have Kiara. They think it sounds like a reaction to the vaccine.

Yep! As long as it doesn't get worse it should be fine. She has only coughed once today as it is
