I was given a lovely glazed ceramic Dobermann about 15 years ago for Christmas and I treasure him. Even though he's a boy (quite evidently!) he is a memorial to my lovely Dobie bitches.

He is gorgeous. Wish I can choose my own gift too as like you I hate surprises. But my kids are small so I go with the moment for the sheer joy on their faces
