identification please !!
Can someone please help? We got our rescue dog yesterday and we adore him but although we know he's a 4yr old gsd, we don't know what he's crossed with. The rescue place think lurcher or staffy but not sure. I'll try posting a pic and would appreciate any thoughts as i'd like to get to know about the breed x

Hi - unfortunately your photo didn't work!
Here is my monkeysee/monkeydo which I wrote for myself and may help you (don't worry about No.1):-
2. Keeping Staffy-bull-terrier- niceboard open, open a new tab and select photobucket from Google.
3. sign up to photobucket.
4. click on Upload.
5. click on Choose photos or videos.
6. you will get drop-down from your hard-drive, click on where you store your photos.
7. Select your photo and click on it. It will take a few seconds to upload (ignore the commercial that cuts in), but then you will see your selected photo - click on it.
8. Your photo will come up with a box on the right-hand side saying Links to share this photo.
9. click on the 4th option (IMG) - it will then say "copied"
10. Go back to your first opened link on Internet Explorer which should still be the Staffy site and choose the topic you want to post in.
11. Click paste
12. You'll see a long line of code, but don't worry, click Send

Re: identification please !!
nothing about him says staffy to me, but i would say he's a cross of a few breeds, so who knows there may be staffy somewhere in his past

Re: identification please !!
Lovely to see pics of your new doggy!
I can't honestly say that I could begin to guess what breeds are in him, but even as a Heinz 57 he looks like a lovely dog, such a kind expression in his eyes (Pic 2). Whatever his breeding I am sure he will blossom under your care and be your perfect companion.

Looks very very much like an Anatolian Shepherd to me.
We had one at our rescue a while back and it took some figuring out.

Re: identification please !!
After a bit of digging with the rescue place, it turns out Scrappy-Doo is a cross between a staffs and gsd!!! He had a 2 hour run round the golf course today and cannot fault him in anyway. His recall is great, he's fantastic with my son and people we meet and is as soft as putty. One problem is he growls and chases our three kittens who are 7 months old and timid anyway. Have tried no, naughty and sending him to bed but nothing is working and I can't keep them in separate rooms forever. Was told he was scared of cats and would avoid them or wouldn't have agreed to take him. It's only been 3 days so guess will take 2/3 weeks to settle down. Any ideas because I really don't want to give him back, we adore him, but can't have cats constantly scared either, or worse hurt.
He's still gulping his food. Guess that's from not knowing when his next meal would be. My vet says he's about 10 kg underweight. Have been feeding him James Wellbeloved and cooked chicken to try fattening him up. Have also discovered he loves hot buttered toast and nice biscuits ;-) what do you all feed your dogs ?

Lovely boy!
I can't see any stafford in him, either. Rhodesian Ridgeback springs to mind. Anatolian? I doN't think so, he isn't really big enough.
By the way, just because there may not be any stafford in him doesn't mean you can't stick around & chat here! Everybody's welcome!

Re: identification please !!
Tbh its a hard one. Id buck the trend and say there could be staffy/bull breed in there and my reasonings are such.
Most bull breed crosses result in the bull breed frame genetics being the dominant genes. So breed a bully with a lab etc you get a bully type dog. Yet when crossed with a spitz type dog the spitz frame genes become predominantly apparent with hints of bully breed showing through, mainly in head, tail and ears and a smaller frame than the spitz dog that has been breed from. You also seem to get a dence lean muscled dog with alot of power. The kick comes from the fact that the identifiers can be shared with a few other breeds making a solid id almost imposible. Even my two with parentage I know 100% look so different to me. Marley has the husky fox face and lean body while laska has a bully head and ears with a husky tail but staffy legs and chest. Its almost impossible to make an infromed decision when two dogs of the same parentage look so different.

Re: identification please !!
Thanks everyone. If it's ok i'll stick around here, no matter what he is. We just adore him. Just wish he'd get on with the cats. Considering what he's been through, he's so loving and gentle. Had his first walk on the golf course yesterday and a golfer commented on how gorgeous and obedient he was. Was very proud. When i told him how long we'd had him, he couldn't believe it. Said he looked so happy. He seems to have settled in. Just eats and sleeps. Might have made a mistake letting him sleep on my bed though :-)

Re: identification please !!
Our dogs don't chase the cats, but for the cats' sake I feed them up on worktops which they prefer and most of the time now the cats are on windowsills, back of sofas, worktops, etc, out of the dogs reach. I'm sure it will settle down
