Hi from me...
Hi all,
I'm so glad I found this site - I am have been reading and doing lots of research on staffies. I have read so much conflicting information (dont get me wrong I know alot comes from personal opinion which obviously differs and I totally agree with that) but from what I've read on this site so far it definitely looks like the right place to get good answers from owners with wide and varied experience.
I had staffies when I was younger but my parents took most of the responsibility for them I now feel that it is time for me to have my own, now that my kids are a bit older.
I like blue staffies but colour is def not the most important thing - what price should I expect to pay for a KC registered pup from a reputable breeder??

Hiya and welcome to the forum, if you want different views your in the right place! I myself would only rescue, is that an avenue you would explore? The price of a kc staff, well not a clue!

Hi & welcome to the forum.
I think that prices differ depending on who you go to, but I think the average price would be around £400+.
Have a word with your local staffordshire bull terrier breed society, or maybe even consider a rescue dog?

Re: Hi from me...
Thanks - had thought of rescue but thought with having kids I'd maybe be better with a puppy? Not rushing into anything but would like to have a puppy in the next few months

Re: Hi from me...
No - I really wouldnt see the point with the UK as a whole being the size it is why split an already tiny country in 2. I think of myself as British and have no strong views politically I'd like to see the whole country get better for everyone.
Alot of staffs I've looked at (and liked the look of) have longer legs, would they be crosses or what I've read being referred to as an Irish staff??

I agree, it would be daft to split an already small country, why not try to work together to improve what we've already got?
There's no such thing as an Irish Staffy (although there are breeders in Ireland that will tell you different!), it's a name that was mainly thought up to cover up the fact that the dog was a pit bull!
What you've probably seen are terrier-type staffs, as opposed to bully-type staffs. The terrier types tend to have a less heavy (or bully) head, longer legs and are usually a bit lighter weight. The bully types have heavier heads, slightly shorter legs and are heavier in body.

Re: Hi from me...
There all great and you can get a rescue dog as a pup too, if thats what you want. If its going to be a pet then that would be my choice all the way.
As you said plenty of time to do loads of research so you find the perfect dog for you and the family, and for them to find you too x

Re: Hi from me...
Hello and welcome, we had Bodhi from a breeder as all our local rescues will not re home to people with children under 5 or 8, some rescues will however if it is a young pup.
When doing our research the breeders were charging between £450 and £600 for a health tested pup. Blues do fetch slightly more but if the breeder is reputable they should not be charging a premium just for the colour.
Good luck in your research.

Re: Hi from me...
I think £450 to £600 is a good price to pay for a puppy that is health checked and has a kc reg doc that if you ask all the right questions you can research all the parentage of that puppy and then therefore guarentee what that puppy will grow to become. You will get a nice blue if you take your time and wait top breeders who breed for type and conformation are out there you just need to research.
Dont go on sites and cause it says a good dog further up the pups line in blue cause that dog will probably be bred out for the colour only.
And if you are not really bothered about the breeding and pedigree like the others have said your local sbt rescue will homecheck you and pick out the right dog or puppy for you.
About 2 years ago a nieve owner bred her 2 sbt very nice both kc registered and blue, things did not go well and when the mother dog was about 6 weeks pregnant they had a massive fight the owner could not cope as she had kids ect and decided to rehome the mother dog she had 11 puppies so 12 dogs were rehomed to loving homes and this happens more than you think unfortunatly so therefore its not always older dogs that need homes puppies need homes too

Re: Hi from me...
I kinda thought the Irish staff was something to do with a pit bull - but you do get proper staffs with longer legs? - hope I got that right...
Dont know what made me think I liked the look of longer legged ones I must say I couldnt resist a stunner like Gems!!
I will contact rescues and see if anything suitable comes up - will certainly cost a lot less than I'd expected.

Re: Hi from me...
Congratulations on your new dog Matt - is that her in picture? Lovely dog. I am definitely going to go for a rescue dog as soon as the right one becomes available. Hopefully a puppy/very young dog as I feel that would be safer around my children...
