Advice please, Does rizz need a coat

After a lifetime of owning longhaired breeds such as collies-both rough and border,shetland sheepdogs and collie/gsd cross I was wondering if rizz needs a coat for the coming cold weather after looking at his fur and realising just how short it is with what looks like to be no undercoat

If you think he needs a coat for his winter walks can you recommend some please:D 

and please no pink knitted efforts  

I would defo get a coat I cant recommend anything as try as I have my boy wont wear one. Someone will be along soon to suggest some

Dempsey only has a coat on when it's really cold. I got one from Zooplus in the sales last year & it's fleece lined with a showerproof outer.

At night, though, my house gets quite chilly in winter so I bought him a fleece hoodie from ebay. Well worth the money!

Oz won't have anything to do with them although he does have an Arthur Daly sheepskin get up when it's really icy but he tends to pull that off too!

being a short hair dog they do feel the cold and do like to be all snuggled up,i do put one on sash when its chilly.

Biscuit has no hair whatsoever on her tummy and will sit and shiver when it's cold, so she has a wide range of coats and knitted jumpers  She loves them though! Anything to be warm and dry  

I have difficulty finding a coat that will fit round my dog's thick neck.
If I can get something big enough in the neck department, it's way too big along the back. If ok along the back, then the neck is too small.
About the only thing that I have managed to get to fit is a doggy life-jacket (size large). Dog gets a few strange looks wearing this in the middle of town, but it's definitely waterproof and nicely padded against the chill.

That looks awesome Caryll is it easy enough to put on as Ledger is happy enough to snuggle once I have got a jumper on him but he can struggle at first

Rocky has a coat for when it is very cold and windy, it is very similar to the one in the link below. Staffies do tend to feel the cold as their own coat is short and thin:

I was thinking about getting Alfie something to wear at night as the temperatures drop, but wasn't sure how safe they were. Caryll that one looks great! Would test during the day first to see how he got on with it.
He actually came with an outdoor coat, he wore it today as that strong wind was freezing! He let me put it on and was ok with it, but don't think he overly impressed

I bought Katy a Danish design 2in1, waterproof, windproof with removable fleece lining. She did try to roll it off at 1st but seems comfortable now  

Moo has a wardrobe   we use Danish Design also

I'd go with the advice here and say yes. Betsy has a bit of a shiver in the cold but absolutely hates wearing a coat. Bless er I don't think her previous owners did try as when I put it on last year she just froze. I've tried everything with positive associations from feeding her with it on, play etc.

We've managed a kinda of compromise with putting it on once she's out for when it's really cold.

I've tried a few but quite like the Danish design mentioned as it's lighter and can be a bit easier with doggies that aren't too keen or as a starter coat

Between the dog and this site its costing me a fortune!  Caryll I have just ordered the fleece All made to measure too, can't wait for it to come  

All my money goes on Daisy these days!  

   

Lola has a 3 peaks one from pets at home, fleece lined and showerproof outer, but they only do them in blue or red.

It came! Here is Alfie in his bespoke fleece. I got for the colder nights. Tested it on him and he has had a wee successfully and then back to sleep! He hasn't tried to get it off or anything.

Thanks Caryll what a lovely item ordered Friday night got a message saying they would make it that night and it arrived today :)still ledger grumps a bit when I put it on but is all curled up in bed asleep in it now
