Hi!
I'm new to this site but also to owning a Staffie.
Alfie is 2yrs old, and his owners were moving to small flat with no garden and no time for him. They admitted they only walk him once a week!! It shows too, poor thing. We only got him yesterday and by their standards he has already had his 2 week walking quota
I will be looking for lots of help and advice no doubt. Thanks in advance x

Re: Hi!
Thanks
Yes we think so Sara n Ozzy
We were told he is a full staff but 2 different people have said they don't think so as his nose is too long? I know its hard to tell from a pic but what do you all think?
I must add it makes no difference to us either way, just curious

Re: Hi!
Thanks Dave
Alfie update.
Took him for an hours walk this morning and he was still much better with the harness. In all the that time he didn't do any business, but did a wee as soon as we entered the garden.
Last night he cried for a short time at bedtime and paced, but then settled. He woke us at 4:15 (husband went as it was only 30 mins until his alarm anyway ) He let him out and he did a no. 2, but he had already wee'd inside. He didn't do anything when oh left for work until I got up at 6.25 apart from bit of whining.
Had to leave him alone for the first time today whilst collecting youngest from nursery. Not knowing if he would be noisy etc, I videoed him! I gave him a raw hide bone before I left and all you can hear is chewing! He was great, not sure if he'd had time to finish it if it would be different but very good start. Going to walk him now before eldest school pick up.

Re: Hi!
Well no accidents today, yay.
However when I Was out this morning the video showed he cried and howled
Because he was wetting etc on carpet, we closed off the front/living room so he has open plan dining room and kitchen, which Is laminate flooring. But it turns out he spends a lot of time on top of my dining table when I'm out! :0
Tomorrow I'll leave him with a bone to hopefully keep him occupied, his chewy one today obviously didn't work this time.

Re: Hi!
What sort of bone?
Please don't say it's a cooked one from the pet shop, or a rawhide one.

I have a packaged raw ham bone but also the raw hides. Our old love the hide one's, not used the others.

Re: Hi!
Brilliant to hear how he's getting on , I wouldn't leave him with any rawhide or cooked bones though - they're somewhat of a choking hazard! You might be interested in writing a diary on him, everyone can view his progress and its great for you to log pictures and his progress and behaviour! No-one replies to your diary but many people read them would be nice to get to know him, and you more - pop over and have a look, here's the link :

Re: Hi!
Oh dear. Thanks for that. Always wondered how raw food dogs dont choke, especially those that eat whole chickens.
Hmm what else can I distract him with? Radio made him worse. Got a kong but want to try with us here first in case he rips up the kong.
Thanks will look up the diary link later x

Re: Hi!
No problemo, we're all here to help! you could try buying him an intelligence puzzle to put his favorite treats in to keep his brain occupied a bit, you should also look at getting him a stag bar or deer antler as they don't splinter so they can't cause any harm to your dog! Feeding raw bones is different to giving cooked/roasted supermarket bones, when the bones get cooked the bone structure inside changes meaning the bones will splinter, if you give uncooked bones they won't and they're safe to feed! you should still always supervise them while eating any bones of course if he goes well with the kong you can fill it with all kinds of things, you can even freeze them so they last a bit longer! Good luck at finding something that works for him I'm sure as he settles in, he'll also be more comfortable being left alone good luck Alfie! Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

Re: Hi!
Haha not thought of him as deer like before!
It was a strange one I suppose. I saw him on a rescue site, enquired about him, was told he still in his home but needed new one as family moving to flat with no garden. They had no time for him either, walked once a week and they had recently rehomed their gsd too.
Apparently the rescue site saw him advertised as free, and was worried where he would end up, so they put him on their site, homechecked us and took a fee.
Love him to bits already
