Studding
I have 2 red staffie boys aged 2 and we were thinking of studding them . We do not have papers for them but both in good health . We have no idea how we go about doing this . I know staffies are overbread dogs but have family members who would like a staffie so why not have siblings off our boys . Any advice would be much appreciated

Re: Studding
I wouldn't even consider it, to be honest.
To do it properly, you'd have to get them DNA tested for the conditions mentioned in the following...
http://www.staffords.co.uk/sbtbc/health_issues.htm
You should also insist that any bitch they are put to should have the same tests. It's not something that should be taken on by 'hobby' breeders. You would have no idea of the ancestry of your boys, and so you would have no idea if they are carrying any defects that would show up in the pups.
Please reconsider.
P.S. Welcome to the forum!

And at a guess I would say that this bitch also doesn't have papers and hasn't been health tested?Beamo13 wrote:We have been asked by a woman if we would be interested in it with her Bitch but she lives nearly 100 miles away

Re: Studding
sounds like it will be too risky for my boys so we dont want to put them at risk so wont be doing it

Re: Studding
Beamo - we all know our dogs are beautiful and think how nice to have pups from them. But please, please don't even consider it.
For the good of any future puppies, you would need both sire and dam to have full health checks to ensure that no inheritable problems are passed on the puppies. And even then, without papers, you would be adding virtually unsaleable puppies to an already overstuffed market.
Sorry to pour cold water on a sentimental idea, but again I would beg you - don't do it!

I've moved this to the Dog & Bones Bar as it isn't really suitable for the Gallery forum.
