Going to teach Tubby to fetch
He's never grasped fetch, so I thought it'd be a relatively simple training game to keep him entertained. Being he stubborn dog that he is, with the attention span of a dead gnat, I'll have to break out the big oinky cow!
Will also start with the walking stick tomorrow as well, to try to get rid of this phobia he has of them.

Hopefully! He probably won't be the chase after a tennis ball in the park type, but it'll be nice for some indoor fetch.Darcy-may wrote:Aww I'm sure dempster will pick it up in know time, especially with you as teacher

Tommy and Tilly both learnt follow , conquer , keep and fight the other one for it , no luck on the bringing back though

At least he won't be the only doggy who hasn't learned it then, if it doesn't go well. I like the challenge though! It's fun finding new ways to train.

Re: Going to teach Tubby to fetch
Decided, rather than teach him to fetch straight away, I'll teach him to hold. That'll give me time to work on his Leave command as well.

Worth a go. They say every dog can learn things if they're taught the right way - just got to find the right way!

Re: Going to teach Tubby to fetch
Dempsey said the right way is just to feed him and stop telling him what to do.

You may be surprised Eleanor, Vin is a begger for fetch and bring back he just doesn't, now chase me that's a different story. Good luck

Re: Going to teach Tubby to fetch
As far as Dempsey's concerned, if it's important enough to chase, he's not letting anybody take it back.

Unfortunately that's been his motto for over 4 years, now!Eleanor wrote:As far as Dempsey's concerned, if it's important enough to chase, he's not letting anybody take it back.

Re: Going to teach Tubby to fetch
It has indeed!
We've been working on his stick phobia so far. Decided to use some of my old marmoset training techniques Using the 'touch' command to get him to touch the stick with his nose, followed by a treat. He isn't very wary of the stick at the moment, but I've been keeping it still, so we'll see how it goes.

Re: Going to teach Tubby to fetch
Good luck with the fetch, Ledger is just getting the hang of it and In the last week or so has started off his own back to bring me the tennis ball. I had started In Ernest as he was spitting the flyball before getting back so it was reward based and a game of Tuggy for bringing the ball to me. Still a work In progress tho
