My dog and cat
Hi all
We have had our girl for7 weeks now, she is a three year old rescue. We also have a cat and ever since we have had our dog, Kiara, we have kept a baby gate on the stairs to ensure that the cat has a safe area of the house to go to. When we took Kiara on we were told that she gets on with cats.
Things so far have gone well. Each day we open the baby gate and get them to sit next to each other and have a treat, Kiara usually sniffs and licks the cat. Kiara also does pay much attention when we let the cat in and out of the back door. There has however, been a couple of occasions where the cat (usually spends most of his time upstairs) has had the confidence to have a wonder around the living room. Kiara has then chased him until he has run back upstairs. She hasn't snarled, barked or snapped at him and when this has happened I have told her off. Also, during the evenings she sometimes leaps off he sofa looking up a the cat who is on the stairs.
Does anyone have any advice? Should I be concerned about her behaviour?
Many thank

Re: My dog and cat
I wouldn't be concerned as long as the cat has somewhere safe to retreat to. It can take quite some time for a rescue dog to fully settle to the new house rules, but if you're consistent & patient things should even out in time.

Cheers. We love them both very much. She is good most of the time, I have even let the cat out and made Kiara sit and wait and she is literally 3 feed away from him. I think she just gets too excited sometimes and wants to chase him.Caryll wrote:I wouldn't be concerned as long as the cat has somewhere safe to retreat to. Haha, no chance of that. I do wish the cat would just man up and give her a slap as that may put her in place.Caryll wrote:She probably wants the cat to play!
