Sleepy R.I.P Remmy a.k.a Remmington/Remskie

Post by Guest Mon Nov 18 2013, 13:14

Remmy wasn't my own dog, but he was a rescue dog we'd had for a while, he was a leggy staffie - we think he was a staffie cross whippet with his agile body, and tiny head Laughing he was the happiest most loving boy with everyone; he'd been with us for a few months, was an amazing learner and a very loyal loving dog. We used to sit in his bed with him and he'd nuzzle you, when you got up he'd watch you till he couldn't see you anymore. Me and another staff member were completely in love with him and would've both had him if the situation was different...

The police were called and came down and asked to view him, he was classed as a Pitbull Type and had to be put to sleep. Before being taken, I took him on his last walk on a long line and his harness from home and he had the best 20 minutes of his life. I was heart broken, like I'd lost my own dog.

No-one knew about Remmy public wise as we weren't allowed to advertise him due to him being a type, so this is just a post on his behalf as I feel he should be remembered somehow, and that people should know about this poor boy.

He happily trotted off into the van, tail wiggling like a worm, they brought back his lead and harness and said they were amazed at how well behaved he was even when they had to put an extra dose in him Sad there wasn't a bad bone in his body.

BSL is wrong! RIP Remmy, we all miss you at the kennels and you'll never be forgotten Sad

A few pictures of him the day he went:

He is lovely and i can tell he is not a cross, so yet again someones ill thought back yard breding had caused a dog to be put to sleep for some "law"

He wasn't any bigger than any other staffie we had in, some were bigger than him and he wasn't "big built" either. He had a whippet shape and staffie head but he wasn't even above my knee (and I'm tiny). Everyone said there's no way he could've been a type Sad he looks the same as a staffie cross whippet we previously rehomed but a different colour Sad

Cody, thank you so much for sharing this. I am in tears. Once again a beautiful dog has been destroyed due to a ridiculous law. The law is an *.
I hope my Buster was waiting for Remmy at the Rainbow Bridge and right now they are playing together.
I want to rant and rave at this stupid law but this is neither the time nor place.
Thank you for caring about someone that would otherwise have gone unnoticed and been forgotten.

What a heart warming post Rory, thank you for such a lovely reply. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Buster, I'm sure he was a brilliant dog also. I'm sure he's going to make plenty of lovely friends up on rainbow bridge. R.I.P Buster <3 such a sad subject isn't it? I could rant and rave about BSL till I exploded also xxxx

I am so sorry to hear of this just because of a name. Sweetheart as you walk along your pathway of life many dogs will come and go, You can always remember that they did have love and kindness from you, sounds like you work in a rescue and god only knows the horrors one sees in a rescue it is the knowing I did the best I could that kept me going,

These wonderful dogs maybe at rainbow bridge but they are also by your side, walking every single step with you, they will still nudge you when you are sad, jump up when your eating, but most of all they are with you. Although the touch will be as gentle as an angels, you feel them I promise, the love and kindness from you at least they knew what it was, some the only time in their lives sending you lots of love and hugs sweetheart xx

Buddy, what a lovely thing to say.

I had a huge lump in my throat reading about poor victimised Remmy, but my tears a flowing now.

Remmy darling, you were sacrificed because of how you looked and because of stupid, stupid, heartless law.

Cody, we all feel heartbroken - but, do remember Buddy's words after the initial pain, they are very comforting.

God bless you both

Thank you all of you, and thank you so much Buddy. Your kind words brought tears to my eyes Sad thinking of him doing all the silly things he used to ect Sad they really were such beautiful words, and most definitely comforting and correct. I'm sure he's up there wanting to give you cuddles and kisses for telling me what he couldn't, that although he's gone from the world, he will always be here in spirit.

I work in a boarding kennels who have teamed up with a staffie rescue charity, we home all the dogs, train them and help give them proper assessments as well as walking and sometimes even naming them. They're all rescued from death row, and we never put dogs down; the time I've been there (3 and a half years soon) we've only ever put a tiny hand full down out of all the 100's of dogs that have came and gone, some with problems and some without. It's just dogs like Remmy who touched so many people with his shy, gentle nature criminalized for his looks, it made it all a lot harder Sad seeing him happy, then seeing him walking happily and looking up at the handler lovingly thinking it's his big chance to get outta here, thinking he's going home Sad really is the worst. But thank you again, your words gave me a lot more positive out look on him being gone xxxxxxxxx
