Best thing about monthly photo comp
I love looking at all the gorgeous dogs in the monthly photo competition, especially the pups section because we never got Bailey till he was six months old (he was a rescue). When I see how cute he could have been it makes me smile, this month has a little beauty called Ridges, who im sure Bailey would have been the spit of , it makes me a little sad that we missed that part of his life. But also I am so glad we have the honor of looking after him now.

But. Think about what else you missed...taichi wrote: it makes me a little sad that we missed that part of his life. But also I am so glad we have the honor of looking after him now.
Toilet training Stepping in piles of poo & puddles of pee first thing in the morning before you've had your first cup of tea/coffee.
Teething. Those extra hard bites cause his gums ache, the chewing on the corners of your furniture, accompanied by smears of blood from his loose teeth.
The nipping & jumping up all the time.
The whining in the middle of the night cause he wants to go for a pee.
I know what you mean, the puppy stages are so cute. But you've given him a wonderful new life & the memories & photos from the minute you got him will more than make up for the lost puppyhood!

That made me laugh Caryll, I DID miss all that bad stuff, we are quite lucky really as he was very well behaved on all counts when we got him.

We got Rocky when he was 9 months old so in effect missed out on lots too, but we don't really see it as missing out on anything as we have the privilege of knowing him for the rest of his life.
I love to look through the gallery & photo competition too and could quite easily get stuck in there for a day

I always think about how cute Bis would have been as a pup, especially with her giant bat ears! Also would have loved to have been able to socialise her adequately and maybe prevent all of this fearfulness that she suffers with now. But that's not the way the world works and she's a character to say the least

Re: Best thing about monthly photo comp
That's right: to have had the dog as a pup means a few things could have been ironed out. My Douglas, who surely would have been the cutest pup in the world, could have done with meeting a few more dogs during his critical early learning gap. Someone somewhere made a mess of that one for him. Still, it's nice to miss the indiscriminate puppy poop and pee phase. As a rescue dog, it just means that he's 97% perfect, not the full 100%. Not a reason not to rescue.

Re: Best thing about monthly photo comp
I agree, like everyone else mine are rescues too and I missed out on those stages! I love seeing dogs that look like Ebony grow up but I'd never change them for the world, faults and all! seeing all the little puppies makes me broody too! Especially since we were gonna get a rescue puppy we had in the kennels for Ebony till we decided on getting her a bigger dog than her so she could play rough!
I also have an unruly addiction for looking at lots and lots and LOTS of rescue bull breeds!
