Hi All, new to the board
Hi everyone, I have an adorable Staffy X, he is 11 months old called Buster.
Im hoping to pick up some tips on here, so glad I've found this place, it looks fab.
Buster is lovely, great temperament, very intelligent (but very dizzy too!), can be very obedient. I have been to some puppy training with him for him to be socialised. He loves other dogs and people and that is the biggest problem at the moment. He insists on trying to jump up at people and due to the size of him it doesn't go down too well!! Anyway, Im sure lots of people have lots of things to talk about on here and I am raring to go now and look at other peoples stories.

Re: Hi All, new to the board
Hi and welcome, I think all Staffie owners have the jumping up problem to start with! The best thing to do is when Buster does it just ignore him and turn your back, Staffies hate to be ignored! It won't be an immediate solution, but as you have found they are clever (sometimes) and very willing to please, look forward to seeing some pics x

Re: Hi All, new to the board
Thanks very much. He is lots better at home, he was literally doing it all the time. Now we get a couple of tries when my son gets in from school, he is worse when I've been at work, I turn away, I walk away and eventually he calms down but when we are out it is a nightmare, he pulls like mad to get to people and people think he's trying to lunge at them. I am sure lots of people on here have come up against negativity just because of the breed, I find it very annoying.

Re: Hi All, new to the board
Missy is the same, when we meet another dog she would much prefer to say hello to the owner and get muudy paws over there top she has got better but when excited there's no stopping them!! As for peoples perception they do get bad press but I blame the owners not the dogs!! Sometimes when I walk Moo people cross the road and pick there children up, but on the up side I've also had people ask if there children can stroke the dog. Good and bad!

Re: Hi All, new to the board
hi and welcome the the forum, im in the process of stoping memphis from doing the jumping up thing to some sucsess, but iv had people getting anoyed when doing it if its not wanted. then you get other people coming up to him and incuraging him to do it and its getting verry confusing for a pup, but the turning away and given him no praise deff works.

Yes I've found people encouraging him too. I say to them 'I dont want him to jump up at you' and they say 'Its Ok, we're used to dogs' The hardest thing is that I work two days per week and Mum comes round to spend time with Buster, the plan was for him to go to her house but her dog hates my Buster cos he's so lively. Buster is particularly excitable with my Mum and Dad, he goes absolutely nuts and he has bruised her a few times cos of jumping up at her.
Thank you for your comments, I know its all part of the young dog process. I'm sure he will improve. I always say I would much rather he was like that than snapping at other dogs like some did at puppy training.

Re: Hi All, new to the board
Hi there.
I see what you mean about the similarities! He is gorgeous
I still have problems with Bailey's jumping at people. If she does it now she goes on the lead for 10 minutes right at my side and i ignore her (she hates it.) Also none of my family allow it so there is no confusion. My main concern is young children that i dont want her to knock over but the children that do run over to her do tend to get a lecture from me lol.
