I have a rescued bitch from the city dogs home, she was a stray and I believe mistreated, when I got her she needed very gentle handling , she would sit trembling and flinching when I spoke to her and had no idea of how to play or behave showed no sign of affection, or listening to me, and jumped up and mouthed constantly. Now after 2 months things are improving she had a season so I guess she is around 12 months old , she does not mouth half has much and is beginning to trust me , walks good on a lead if I use a Cannie collar ,otherwise she can pull me over I never realized how strong they are .very clean in the house and asks to go out for a wee, I have got her a cage and she lives in the kitchen with loads of interaction throughout the day , after a walk ,3 a day she dives into the cage so must like it . But I still have a problem putting her on the lead ,she attempts to bite me when I go near her with the lead ,so I'm guessing she has been hit with one before any help with this issue would be very gratefully received . thanks for reading this Audrey

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Maybe try getting a very light weight lead, give her a treat then clip it on, give another treat and just let her trail it around the house to begin with. Try to get her to sit before you attached the lead and make sure she is calm then give the treat.

Hi and welcome from me and Bella Well done sounds like you have done a great job, when I walk Bella she is more then happy to follow me with out being on the lead but Bella is just 11weeks from today, you could try that and see how you go or do the treat get her to sit before clipping the lead on.. Good luck and would like to see photos..

Thanks for all the good wishes ,Shay is getting to be more attentive and has started to come to me for a fuss ,and this morning rolled onto her back so I could give her tummy a good scratch she loved it .regarding the problem with her not liking the lead I have changed it to a leather one and there's no aggression when I attach it to her collar . So it was the chain lead she was afraid of makes you wonder what has happened to her in the past
Re: new member
Aw poor shay, she's got a good home now though and it sounds like she's settling in very well . Well done you. Nico says hi !
