energetic/ protein food
Hi,
Lucy is doing well, "I must download some more photo's as she has grown"
We went to a meeting of puppies at our vets surgery on Tuesday. She was the youngest at 9wks and ended hiding under the chairs until half way through the meeting when she came out to say hello
I was surprised as I thought she would run riot, At home she is like a rocket running around our living room.
I wish we could take her out but she doesn't have her second injection until this Saturday- then I'm told we have to wait another 2 weeks before we can take her out for a little run around. I know we will have to take it easy with her but the excess energy she has is unbelievable.
Lucy is being fed on Orijen (80% protein-20% veg and fruit) Do you think having a diet of high protein is causing her to behave like this?

Re: energetic/ protein food
No, she just needs a bit more mental exercise! Try a few short training spells with her during the day, wear her brain out!
Orijen isn't a bad food, so it isn't that. She just needs a bit more stimulation. Do you have a garden? Can you play tug or throw something around for her? Obviously if she needs a rest she should be allowed to, but she's at that awkward time when she's starting to really settle in and feel comfortable but can't go out & burn it all off!

I wouldn't have thought a high protein diet would cause her to have excess energy levels, quite the opposite in fact. Yes as Caryll suggest some mental stimulation with games of for example hide and seek indoors should tire her out well. Try hiding a small treat in an old egg box, roll up in a blanket, under a cushion etc, for her to find.

It'll be much better when she can start to explore outside. She'll get physical & mental exercise that way.
Don't forget the pics!

Hi there from me and my Zara. Lucy is gorgeous. Zara keeps me very busy with play times and training too. I get to take Zara out for her first proper walk next Friday and we have enrolled in puppy training as from next Saturday. Let the fun begin

Re: energetic/ protein food
Hi lycy is beautiful looks just like our sasha, who incidentally has more energy than any dog I have ever known. She has 2 runs a day and a walk around 9pm and she still isn't worn out. Ive just brought sasha some interactive toys online just waiting for them to come. I find if I put a couple of treats in a fizzy pop bottle and give it to her keeps her amused for ages linfer than any toy ive brought lol x

Re: energetic/ protein food
Lucy is playing with a pop bottle as I type this message, I definitely will put some treats inside as soon as she stops whizzing around the room.
I have never seen a dog run so fast; and I've had a Doberman and staffy before Lucy."She is like lighting"
