Re: Worming
I have a little timer on my fridge. It counts 30 days for her frontline flea treatment. when it beeps i give her the spot treatment and the working tablet.
She had it today actually
I know that didnt answer your question but maybe ask at the vet or the pet shop for a timer

Re: Worming
I think Drontal's reccommended dosage is every 3-6 months but it should say on the packet. I use Advocate which is flea and worm spot on treatment and its supposed to be given every 4 weeks but I sometimes let it go 6 weeks and Sky's fine
I used to worm my previous dog naturally with pumkin seeds, anyone else do this? It worked for her, although when we first got Sky she had Dermodex mites (fox mange) therefore we use the Advocate now which is wormer and flea treatment all in one

Re: Worming
harvey gets wormed every 4 weeks, he had his this morning, we do it every 4 weeks and try to stick to as the breeder we got him from had never wormed him as she thought she didn't need to.

Re: Worming
Thank you nat and ella. So really i don't have to worm him till july time. Just that he smells like he needs worming, it is really awful smell. When my friend was round to see him for the first time in march, i said to her that he smells and she smelt him and she said that is a sign that he needs worming. My friend has two Rottie Bella 2 and Homer 7 months
Ella - The girl we got bruno off, she didn't worm the puppies either
Just looked at the packet from last month from the vet, and its 1 table per 10kg monthly

Re: Worming
Ahh i see the vet wasn't impressed that the breeder hadn't wormed him, don't know if he did have worms but when we picked him up he had a real pot belly on him, which has now gone since we have been worming him regularly.

Load of tosh, sorry! You can't smell worms!
In the UK vets advise you to worm a pup once a month until 6 months and then every 3 months with a broad spectrum wormer. I've always gone by that & had no problems.
I don't routinely de-flea them because I don't like giving them unnecessary chemicals, so I only de-flea if I see sogns of them. Same with ticks - I keep a good look out for them (Dempsey gets checked over completely every day) and then remove them if necessary. I haven't actually seen a tick on any of my dogs for about 25 years, though!

Re: Worming
I really didn't know whether to believe her or not, she is a good friend so had no reason not to believe her.
Steve is going to the vets on the way home tomorrow to get some worming tablets and flea stuff. but after that we're going to find the site where my friend gets her worming tablets from as it is cheaper but I am a bit iffy about getting them online because they could be anything and even thou it is more at the vet at least you can trust them to give you the correct tablets, plus it is worth paying more for Bruno

I'm sure your friend means well, but you really can't smell worms. A dog can go 'off condition' and maybe get a body odour, but that wouldn't necessarily be worms.
I always get my wormers from the vet, because they cover lung worm prevention. I have 2 chewable tablets for Dempsey (31 kilos) & they cost me just over £5.

Re: Worming
Someone told me once its cheaper to buy wormers at P@H or the chemist but I found them to be more expensive than the vet :/

Re: Worming
My OH went to the vet yesterday and pick up worming tablets and fleas stuff, and he ask about worming Bruno and was told every 3 months but on the pack we got the beginning of april it says 1 table per 10kg, so on that basis we'll have pick up another tablet as he'll weigh more than 10kg by july ?
The worming table which is Drontal cost £2.50 , didn't that was bad as pets at home charge £8.95 for 2 tables i think.
Trouble is that at that vet practice, we have seen a different vet each time we've been, might have seen one of them twice

Re: Worming
I only buy enough tablets for one dose at a time, because of the weight changes in a young dog. It's different for Dempsey now, because he's just about his full weight (30 kilos), but up until now his weight has been different every time I've wormed him!

Re: Worming
last time we went he weighed 8.20 kilos which i think is 16 pounds, i think roughly he's putting on 2lbs a week, got to buy a battery for our scales, my little girl weighes her toy rotties on there as well as herself.
