Suddenly becoming aggressive
I really need help.
I have an 11month old male. He has recently been neutered. His behaviour has really taken a turn for the worse in the past few weeks. He was a really calm dog when me and my partner was in the house but now we can barely sit on the settee. Whereas he used to lay down with us, he now continuously jumps up at us, barks, growls, nips, bites at us. It does really hurt sometimes. He's a big dog. When he stands up on his back paws his face isn't far off mine and I'm 5"2. And obviously with his size comes his power so it's very easy for him to obtain power over us. We have been to a dog trainer and we are following everything she has said but it hasn't worked. I'm really beg toting to the end of my tether with him. He has always been a fairly jealous dog, in respect of my boyfriend couldn't cuddle me without him jumping etc. last night was the worst night by far. He reduced us both to tears and I don't want to give up on him. I understand he is getting to his "teenage" years and he may be starting to go through a rebellious stage but it's getting to the point where neither of us can cope anymore and it's breaking my heart. I can't give up on him but I don't want to be crying every night either.
Please please please can somebody help me.
Thank you Olivia.

Re: Suddenly becoming aggressive
I am afraid I am not much help as never experienced this.
The only thing I can say is he is probably testing how far he can push you, so please stay strong.Perhaps you could send him for time out in another room for a few minutes.
Perhaps stand up and fold your arms and ignore him, that seems to work for me if Vin gets a little to rough.
Someone will be along with more advice, good luck

I'd also ask what he's fed & how many walks he gets, and for how long.
You say he was recently neutered - how recently?

He eats morning and evening, wainwrights meat and pets at home biscuits mixed together. He gets walked 4x daily, as soon as we wake up, dinner time, tea time and just before bed, all between 20 and 30 mins each. he was neutered 2 weeks ago. x

Re: Suddenly becoming aggressive
It could be that his hormones are still settling down - he was, after all, neutered quite early at a time when his hormones would have been raging!
I would go right back to basics. Pretend he's a pup with no training at all. Step up his general training as well, start to give him short training sessions three or four times a day, always ending with something that you know he can do well.
He will come through it, but you'll need to be firm & patient.

Re: Suddenly becoming aggressive
I think that a lot of vets tell you all the pros of neutering at a young age but never tell you about the cons.
I would always advise allowing a dog to mature before neutering, at least it gives the hormones a chance to settle. But what's done is done, and that doesn't mean there's no way back!
With a bit of patience & consistency I'm sure you'll have your well behaved boy back again!
