I came home to this just now!!!!!!
[url=]
A couple of weeks ago I thought, you know what I'll buy Sky a nice comfy bed, as her behaviour around the house is great she doesn't chew stuff, if she touches anything I say leave and that's it.
Bought her this from Pets at home £20, thought now thats comfy.. Obviously Sky disagreed!
Might put the stuffing back in, but the bottom has a gapping hole :-(. Sky is nearly 1yr old, and still I cant trust leaving her in the house, alone. It's almost as if she thinks "YES HE HAS GONE, GONNA DESTROY THAT THIS TIME".
Last week it was my broadband cable, arrrggghhhh. Although she had a chew in there, the bed was clearly the obvious choice.
Any tips or will she just grow out of being a little monkey..
Might take her to work with me tomorrow and have her booked into the cells, she wouldn't have anything to chew on then!!!! Concrete blocks might even do wonders for her teeth.

Yes all too familiar I had the same scene with the lime green fluff once.
How often is she walked on a daily basis?

Re: I came home to this just now!!!!!!
Most of the time I try to walk her for a good hour around the fields so she can sprint about.. Then try to slot in a half hour walk which is often before work. I often play with the frisbee in the house/garden too, but when I try this outside everything else seems more interesting.
I suppose I need to look at better ways of knackering her out. I'm hoping to start jogging soon, so might take her with me. Nothing mega long distance.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got green fluffed!

Yes by 12 months she should be having at least three 45 mins walk a day, I am sure more exercise will reduce the destructions.
Do you leave a filled kong with treats when you crate her?

You must have some serious spare time on your hands. I would say 2 x 30 mins of exercise is suitable for a Staff but I suppose all Staffs are different.Inezmaria70 wrote:Yes by 12 months she should be having at least three 45 mins walk a day

2 x 30 mins is not suitable for an adult staffy, they are a very high energy breed and need a LOT of exercise and mental stimulationBob R wrote:You must have some serious spare time on your hands. To the OP my boys are nearly 3 and 4 and they still destroy their beds when the mood takes them

Re: I came home to this just now!!!!!!
I shouldn't laugh, but that is not that bad... the torn to pieces couch... the torn up walls... those were bad. I agree. Lots of exercise. We do 2x 1 hr walks and 2-3 playtimes where the dogs engage with us and play. Those last anywhere from 20-40 min each. That is about what it takes.

Re: I came home to this just now!!!!!!
Well, DEmpsey's 4 years old & still destroys his bedding given half a chance! What he has now is a thick piece of vetbed at the bottom of his crate & then some ex-german army blankets & a couple of doggie fleeces. Everything else (and we've tried quite a few!) was destroyed!
Ditto, I'm afraid. Two 30 minute walks a day for an adult staff is simply not enough.ella wrote:2 x 30 mins is not suitable for an adult staffy, they are a very high energy breed and need a LOT of exercise and mental stimulationBob R wrote:You must have some serious spare time on your hands. Absolutely not I work 2 jobs and run a household, but the importance of exercising my dog is essential for their well being. Whether I am shattered or not the routine remains the same.Bob R wrote:You must have some serious spare time on your hands. Re: I came home to this just now!!!!!!
Yeah I'm starting to think, if she destroys this bed, then she can have some old blankets and towels. I doubt I could get a refund and say it wasn't fit for purpose :-) lol.
I've never heard of a hydrotherapy pool before! I do have a kong which I am going to start using a little more, She probably just needs a bit more exercise, or mental stimulation like alot of you have mentioned.
What sort of games do you play in the house?

Re: I came home to this just now!!!!!!
I recently spoke to a dog behaviourist who said that you can knacker your dog out by physical exercise until it's eyes are popping out, but if you are not giving them mental stimulation, they will still continue to be bored and behave badly. He said all you will have at the end of continuously walking them and letting them run, is an extra fit dog who will have more strength and stamina to be more destructive. I get it, it makes sense. I have now begun playing games with mine in the house, hiding treats and asking them to find them, using kong toys is very stimulating also. They love it and he said even doing this twice a day for 10 minutes each time, will satisfy their needs.

I totally agree. But they still need good walks at least twice a day!wilf2812 wrote:I recently spoke to a dog behaviourist who said that you can knacker your dog out by physical exercise until it's eyes are popping out, but if you are not giving them mental stimulation, they will still continue to be bored and behave badly. I'm beginning to wonder if we were extremely lucky;because we didn't have to cope with any of this when our Buster was alive (God bless him)
May be it was because he was very rarely left alone.
I have to chuckle though; as I can imagine those adoring eye's looking up at your saying "what's up- I've only been playing"
Give him a cuddle from me ( hug)

Re: I came home to this just now!!!!!!
Hi everyone ive given sasha 4 beds now 2 large dog beds in her crate a single duvet folded up and yesterday an old pillow with 2 pillow cases around it just in case and when I got up this it was pulled out and ripped to shreds how she managed to get it out of the pillow cases without me hearing her I will never know. She has also got a couple of camping fleeces in there but nights are getting colder now and worry about her getting cold any ideas would be appreciated I think the stuffed bed idea is a no go as I don't think the stuffing is good if she does happen to swallow it. She only goes in her crate at night and when she needs time on her own so I want it to be cosy and comfy for her. She also has loads of chewy toys in there including a kong toy
