Cant find a pup
Well I am getting impatient now as i've been scouring the net for a Staff pup for 2 weeks but struggling to find the right one.
I was looking at various classifieds but was advised against that on here, and put on to 'Champdogs' which does contain quality dogs but not many pups. There are very few [half a dozen at the most]who are currently advertising pups [unless I am looking in the wrong place] for sale on that site and the ones I have emailed haven't replied.
Can anyone else suggest somewhere that advertises Staffs that have been bred correctly. I need to fill that empty gap in my life and have a very loving home waiting.
I cant consider a rescue dog/adult as I have youngsters.
Thanks

Arhhh puppies are so cute! I've been looking at the link Steve wrote
Why not have a look at the rescues - pups and adults alike. I forgot how much hard work having a pup was until we got our rescue girl Molly.
Good luck! And look forward to the pictures

Re: Cant find a pup
I agree but it seems very few currently have pups on offer. I expected numerous breeders to have pups as Staffs are so popular.Steve wrote:that the only place i would get an pup from

Re: Cant find a pup
Don't despair Rob, the perfect pup for you will come along sooner or later. Widen your net - search on breed clubs and societies, and be prepared to travel if after communication with the breeder, a litter sounds promising.
Good luck - the best things are worth waiting for!

Re: Cant find a pup
Its not really the season. A lot of breeders won't breed coming into winter cause it is too cold and the pups can't get outside as much and it is more likley that the pups won't get walked as much and be harder to train. It's very responsible. The breeder thinks of the needs of the dog, not the owner. If you want a quality dog, you will just have to wait.

Re: Cant find a pup
I know you said you have children so don't think of a rescue? Well a lot of people give up on pups because in experience with my Bull Terrier pup who is now four months old are an energetic and sometimes stubborn pup. So people give up on them so why not contact some rescue centers and ask if they have young pups available. Its well worth saving a rescue.

Re: Cant find a pup
I know you've said you won't consider a rescue but you really are selling yourself short , if you call around the breed rescues you may well find some pups or very young dogs worth considering , if you really are that impatient . All good things come to those that wait and if you decide you can't wait and got to the private classifieds etc you really run the risk of getting big problems . We don't advise people against them because of anything other than the stories we see on here time and time again and the damage we know these people are doing to our breed

Re: Cant find a pup
A lot of good breeders won't breed at this time of year - Christmas present dogs & all that, so they wait for the bitch's next season in the new year.
You might do far better if you wait until january/february & then start looking. I know it seems like a long wait, but if you get the right pup then it's worth it!
You could also try contacting your local SBT club and ask for their recommendations. I don't know where you live so I can't give you the web address.

Have you tried the kennel club website? There's a few on here, not sure what area you are in.

This is where we found Saffy's breeder

Re: Cant find a pup
The main thing is not to rush into buying a badly bred pup just because it's available.

I'm Stockport area.
I'm not aware of any SBT clubs. Do these clubs advertise dogs or is it a case of contacting breeders to see if they currently have any available?

Re: Cant find a pup
phone them up and see if they got any breeder that god a litter soon but when you find one make sure you check the COI level :)if you not sure came here and we will tell you how inbred the pup will be
Re: Cant find a pup
There will be a club that covers your area. If you're not sure, phone the main club & ask.
You might need to go onto a waiting list as the good breeders usually have people queuing!

Re: Cant find a pup
Should you decide to go down the rescue road see the list of rescue centres below, I'm sure there will be one in your area, just scroll down the list to find the UK ones. They do get young puppies in sometimes and often a bitch will go into a rescue centre because she is pregnant, poor girl:

Re: Cant find a pup
Thanks for advice but I cant rescue a dog for several reasons.
The wife isnt a dog lover like me but I think she will bond alot easier with a pup rather than an adult dog.
There will always be a trust issue with my children and an adult rescue dog.
I cannot be sure how a rescue dog has been raised/treated or abused.
I admire Staffs as a breed mainly due to their structure/appearance and I could not be sure that a rescue pup has been bred from genuine Staffs.

You need the North West Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club BobBob R wrote:I'm Stockport area.

http://northwestsbtclub.co.uk/
They also support a nice lady Barbara Green from Bolton who runs a Breed Specific Rescue and was just telling me the other week how desperate they are for rescuers , give her a ring and she may be aware of a litter in need of rescue , you don't know if you don't ask

Sorry just to add regarding Barabara and rescue , more often than not Barabara knows the background of the dogs and pups she handles

Re: Cant find a pup
I suppose that if you already have this view of rescue dogs, there is not much point in trying to persuade you otherwise as there will be a tainted view on the dog from day one, and a paw out of line wouldn't be as well tolerated as if you had raised from a pup. Though I will say many dogs coming through my centre are surrendered from marriage break ups, nothing more nothing less, most have been raised around children and are ever so sociable. I'm lucky that my girl came from a home with many children and is great around them so that when I plan for a family in the future I won't need to worry. However, totally aware that is not the route that you want to go down, so can only echo what others have said, best bet is to wait until the new year Good luck finding your perfect pup!

Re: Cant find a pup
Tbh you would be better with an adult. The puppy stages of a stafford are the worst. Most people give them up cause they assume they are aggressive. Why are you getting a dog if your wife doesn't like them

Re: Cant find a pup
Staffords might not be the best breed for a family where one party is already opposed. They are sensitive and rambunctious (especially when young). Mine ate one of our couches, chewed moulding and ruined new carpets. That was with giving them 2x 1hr walks per day, and a few hours play. If we both didn't love them to pieces, it would be 100x harder.

Re: Cant find a pup
I can understand where you are coming from regarding the fear of a rescue dog. I felt the same way since Bacon would be my first Staff. So, I got Bacon as a pup from a reputable breeder. Now that I understand the breed better, I can tell you that I would have NO hesitation to a rescue Staffy. You will be able to gauge the dog's character in very little time. Don't be afraid of a rescue. I'd say give it a chance with an older rescue. At least go visit some before you make up your mind. There is no harm in visiting some.
I'm sorry to beat a dead horse, but I don't think so many people would chime in if they didn't feel so strongly about a rescue dog.
