any one tried these?
so sash had her follow up at the vets this morning after her dental last week, she's all healing nicely and her limp on her front paw has gone whilst we were there i thought i'd ask his advise on what to give her for firework season as its quickly coming round,i told him we had tried thunder shirts, calming sprays not worked,he then mentioned giving her valium ,after hearing what it might do to her i refused it(i would be taking it too!)he then said about a product called Zylkene, just wonder if any one had tried it and did it work?

We have been thinking about the fireworks too as the idiots around here seem to like throwing them about the place for no particular reason. Rocky has an Adaptil collar on already and we will be getting him another soon too.

I haven't heard of it but worth a try Stella. Luckily Vin just sleeps through it, though deaf after as I turn the tv volume right up.

Re: any one tried these?
I've done many trials on Zylkene throughout the last few years working with dogs, and from what i've seen you may as well be giving your dog smarties! It's very well advertised and marketed but it barely touches even mild stress.
Biscuit has a severe firework phobia and has to be sedated with diazepam as it's the only thing for her that even touches that level of anxiety. I have tried pet remedy, adaptil and thunder shirts to no avail. Sorry for the bad review!

Poor thing. What annoys me is that it's not just one night.. it seems to go on for over a week or so (may sound grumpy there but my dogs aren't too keen!)

Re: any one tried these?
Fireworks are all lovely and pretty, until you get an animal who's afraid of them. Makes you realise how awful they can be. Last year, me and mum were out until late at night searching for a man's elderly staffy, who'd slipped her collar and bolted because she was so terrified.
Honestly, I don't know much about the calming treatments, as Dempsey thankfully isn't affected by fireworks too much. One of our old dogs, Bandit, was terrified of them though, so mum might be able to recommend something when she comes online!

It's so hard to recommend one thing or another as different things work for different dogs. We used to have to get mild tranquilisers for Bandit, poor lad, no idea what they were.
Shut the windows, pull the curtains & turn up the tv/radio, plus Adaptil - either the plug ins, sprays or both. I hate fireworks nowadays, I've seen what they can do to animals.
