Anyone done a sky dive?
My dad passed away last year from pancreatic cancer and I'd like to be able to raise some money for Pancreatic Cancer UK. I ran the race for life this year but I still want to do more.
Have found out that I can do a sponsored sky dive, but I'm terrified! I've been offered twice to do it before my dad died but said no both times... But now I feel like I really want to do it for my dad!
Has anyone done it before... Is it as scary as it looks?
I'm also TERRIFIED of needles but I'm seriously considering donating blood because my dad always did it and now obviously he can't, and I think it would make him very proud!

Thanks guys!
I just so want to be able to raise as much as I can. Pancreatic cancer is one of the less known about cancers but one of the most dangerous because by the time it's usually diagnosed it's untreatable and will be terminal.
We lost dad just 2 months after his diagnosis. He'd been misdiagnosed for weeks beforehand so it's hard not to think maybe he could have survived if it was found sooner, which is why I want to raise awareness and money so more research can be done to beat this mother trucker of a disease!!!

Re: Anyone done a sky dive?
I've always admired people who'll sky dive for charity - I'm afraid I don't think you'd get me up there, let alone jump out!

I'll sponsor you too , Cancer , Heart disease and Staffies are pretty much the only charities we support these days
I did a parachute jump for charity when I was 18 ( also my first ever time up in a plane ) , the best is if you can get someone involved that will pay the cost of the jump ( my company did ) that way everything you get is straight to the charity
Sure Jules will have been involved in these charity jumps a few times and can give you some guidance

Ive done 3 static line jumps which means the parachute deploys as you leave the plane. Its not as intence as freefall but I remember the noise and then the serenity when the parachute opens. Its scerene and highly addictive, as you float down its like nothing on earth chill wise. Youd expect adrenaline but you get a massive chil pill as you marvell at the world while floating down. Prob is that if I was to do it now I woud need to use a cargo parachute for landing tanks lol

Re: Anyone done a sky dive?
Only charity I support apart from dogs. My ex was oncology ward sister and i dont know anyone who cares so much about her patients. Ive never known anyone so frustrated about there job because of being held up by red tape and cost savings...Caryll wrote:janey wrote:Well if you ever do it share a sponsor link, my dad died of cancer also so something I supportMe too - my dad also died of cancer.Dave wrote:I'll sponsor you too , Cancer , Heart disease and Staffies are pretty much the only charities we support these days

Re: Anyone done a sky dive?
Ah Rosie, I haven't done one but if you think you can go for it, such a good cause I also support cancer and dog charities
I did a para glide (I know that's no where near the same! ) I was really scared but it was amazing, I'm sure you'd feel the same.....

This proves staffie owners are LOVELY PEOPLE!
Once I've signed up I'll post the link sponsors would be gratefully received! Very much so!
Now I've convinced my partner to do it with me, I'm going for it! Just need to rake together the booking fee and I'll be on my way!

Re: Anyone done a sky dive?
So sorry to hear about your dad but a skydive is a great way to raise awareness and sponsorship. When it comes to a tandem for charity all centres provide the same service my advice would just be to pick one fairly local as you will be dependant on the weather on the day and may need to rearrange also makes it easier for friends and family who want to support you.
Yes it's scary first time, I still get butterflies in some jumps, but only advice is to take a deep breath and enjoy it freefall is not easy to explain mostly it's just loud oh and admire the view under canopy. Only other thing is I recommend paying the extra and getting it filmed
