Safe driving with dog
Hello - I've done tonnes of research on the safest place to put the dog when in the car. Although many experts recommend crating or a harness, the scientific research (with doggy crash test dummies) holds that neither method is safe or even safer for your dog.
Rupert likes sitting in legroom space in the passenger seat. He curls up there. Is that a particularly dangerous place for him to sit, do you think? Is it very vulnerable to being crumpled if there is a collision?
Thank you!

Re: Safe driving with dog
I don't know on that, I always put Vinnie in the boot bit with his harness and secured to the dog guard. Hence to say he loves it and always goes to sleep.

I use to have Pixee in a harness, and I use to click her harness to the seatbeat. Not the best thing for her as I once had to snap on the brakes and she got throwed forward with the harness hurting her. But then again without the harness she would have ended up hitting something????? Now she travels in the boot, although I dont like it as someone could run into the back of the car, I feel its the best place at the moment. She is not allowed to wear an harness anymore due to a old shoulder injure (done to her on purpose in her previous home ) s.

Re: Safe driving with dog
Our 2 go in the boot with the parcel shelf off. I fasten their harnesses to some straps which are about 18 inches long so they can move about a bit. They seem to like it in there and go to sleep after a run. The only thing I worry about is they sometimes stand up and look out of the back window and I worry about the boot springing open. I keep watching them in the mirror when they do this which isn't really the safest thing for me to do. I don't think there is an ideal way to be honest.

We always travel in the car with Rocky on the back seat with his harness and seat belt clip on.

Re: Safe driving with dog
It isn't just about the dog's safety, of course. If your dog's loose in the car & you have to stop suddenly your dog could continue to move forward at a fair speed which could result in fatal injuries to the people in the car!
To me, the safest place is in the back area of the car in a secured crate with a dog guard put up between the dog & the driver/passengers.

That is why Daisy has to be in a crate, I have tried the seat belt harness and she won't settle so it's a dangerous distraction for me.
