Stinky pup!
Since we got Peppa she has been a very stinky pup! She had the typical litter smell when we first got her, which did go after a bath, but she still has a funny smell all the time. It's not a normal dog smell, and I can't really explain it,but not even refresh spray seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing it, or how we could get her smelling as sweet as she looks?x

Re: Stinky pup!
Hmm, dogs do smell generally. But if you say she smells a different smell...
Is she not wetting her bed or anything and laying on it?
Pebbles smells too. Some days more than others. My nose doesn't take kindly to doggy smell but i put up with it. If it gets too bad i may just give her a bath.
They sell dog wipes at the pet shop but i don't know if they'd be any good to 'remove' smell. I think they are more for a quick clean than for smell.

Tip does smell when she gets gassy. As she is an inside dog she gets a bath when her doggy smell get overwhelming.

Hmm... I must be weird, because I like the smell of Bruno!
Have you checked her ears? They let off a horrible smell when they're dirty or infected. You could also try the wipes you can get from pet shops. We use them on Bru now and again if he's been getting mucky in the garden but to be honest the nice smell doesn't last long and he goes back to smelling of puppy.
Sounds silly but if the smell really bothers you, you can get doggy perfume. That stuff lasts a while, I used to work as a groomer and we'd spray each of the dogs before they went home. I stunk of it pretty much all the time!

Re: Stinky pup!
What do you feed her? Sometimes a particular food can disagree with a dog's body oils & that can make them smell.
Have you mentioned it to the vet?

Thanks for the replies I have tried the wipes and the perfume but they don't seem to last that long unfortunately. I have wondered about her food too, she's on bakers puppy as that is what her mums owner put her on and didn't want to change it straight away incase it upset her tummy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a food that may suit her better?x

Re: Stinky pup!
Almost anything other than Bakers! It's full of additives that would send a child hyperactive, let alone a dog! Some of the additives are known carcinogens in humans. It's packed full of wheat & grains, with virtually no meat at all, so could be what's making her smell.
A grain free one is best, maybe something like Wainwrights (from Pets at Home) or James Wellbeloved. Taste of the Wild is also a good one, as is Eden, but they are both quite expensive.

Thank you! I'll switch her onto one of those asap then. She's had a funny tummy on and off so definitely don't want her filling with additives x

Not trying to promote any particular product Caryll, but I use Eden and although it's an expensive outlay ( a little over £50 for 15kilos including carriage) I am feeding Bacchus for less than £1 per day and as you can see he's thriving.Caryll wrote:Almost anything other than Bakers!
