Re: hi
Hiya again it should be 5 mins per month of age, twice a day so around ten to fifteen mins . Obviously there will be play times at home also so do bear this in mind.

Hi & welcome to the forum!
Yes, the general rule is 5 minutes per month of age on lead & on hard surfaces (pavements etc), at least twice a day but preferably three times if you can. But you can also let him run around on grass or sand in addition to the walks as long as he's allowed to stop & rest whenever he wants.

Re: hi
Once won't hurt!
It's just a general rule of thumb, and as I said, off lead playing on softer ground is fine as long as the pup is allowed to stop & rest whenever it needs to. It's just the lead walking on hard surfaces that needs to be kept down a bit.
Don't worry about making mistakes! Everybody has to learn from somewhere!!!

Re: hi
Congrats with your new baby! And don't be scared because one dog attacks you, I know it can be scary, but comfort yourself by thinking that it's most likely not the dogs fault when he attacks. As long as you love your puppy and you give her all the attention and love she deserves, she will protect you and love you back and she'll show you that you have nothing to fear from dogs in general.
Just be sure that you don't show your fear to Kim and don't project your fear on her, so when you are scared of a dog, don't lift Kim and walk away. Show her that other dogs aren't scary, and maybe her reaction will show you the same thing.

Re: hi
kiets thanks so much, i will take on board what you have said, its all so new to me, and i have had some stressfull days because i am learning all the time, from food, sleep, play, walks, training, i love kim to bits, but worry i am not doing things right,,,, i am of work at min with broken finger,i work nights 4, so i am trying to get in a routine before i have to go work, but worry how to do it, my idea is... cos i get home at 5.15am i have bin feeding kim at 5.30am sometimes 6am, i then play with her for about hour, then put her in her crate, she then comes out of crate at 11ish , i feed her then play for hour, then back in crate till 2ish, she then is fed at 3.30pm, she may go in crate for sleep, sometimes not, then she gos bed at 8.30pm and sleeps till 5 or 6 next morning,,,,hope this sounds right, i fear i maybe not giving enough attention,or to much,,,,, what i have put above now includes walks, and when i off work maybe a bit differant,,, would like to know how much sleep, rest she needs from 5am till bed time 8.30,,,,thanks in advance

Re: hi
I think there is no 'right' schedule when it comes to your dog, as long as it's a routine which you are both comfortable with. A first time is tough with everyone, I mean, my stafford is my first, but not my first dog to raise, but this is the first time that I'm doing it on my own, in my own house, with my partner.
The routine that you have seems normal, because she is supposed to sleep at night and be a dog during the day. I think you are very dedicated to Kim and don't feel like you are not doing enough, but from what I see: you do.
My pup sleeps in his cage from 9/10-ish at night, until 7/8-ish in the morning. I have to say that I got Milo at 6,5 weeks, way too young and it was not my choice, but I had to work with the tools that were handed to me. I had him house trained at 8 weeks and he was fully comfortable with his cage when he was 9 weeks.
I have 2/3 long (20/25 minute) walks a day and several short walks, when he has to pee for example. He plays when he wants to play and naps when he wants to nap, I let him take his naps when he thinks he needs them. When your pup doesn't want to play, I think she will show it to you. Focus on giving her the attention she wants, but don't be afraid to say 'no' every once in a while. Not everything is supposed to be about her, take some time for yourself. Focus on training her, teaching her and showing her the world.
This is my view, by the way. I'm not an expert, but this is how I did it.
And: have faith in yourself, you are good to your puppy, you are not mistreating her and you obviously are trying so hard to do it right. But have confidence in yourself, your puppy needs to you to be confident, so that she grows up to be a confident dog.

Re: hi
Hi and welcome from Tip and me. One thing I found that helped us is puppy socialization class. It hepls to have them play with other pups plus you get taught how to train your pup.
This forum has also been a huge help. Enjoy the journey to adult hood with your pup. It is an rewarding ride.

Hello and welcome to the forum from me nd the kids sounds like you are getting along just fine and not frightened to ask for help when you need it
For the paw just trying holding out a treat and tapping the back of one of her paws , as soon as she lift it even slightly then give her the treat , I used this to get Tommy to do it as he was awkward to teach that 1 particular trick at about 6 months

My little man seemed he would never get the hang of giving paw and I had just about given up on it ... then he learnt to do both left and right as well as high and low in about 5 minutes once I left the treats in the cupboard, and offered him steak for doing it
