Canagan
Just wondered if anyone has fed their dogs Canagan grain free dog food? I put Axl on it a month ago and he was fine on it but in the last two weeks he's had two bouts of diorreah (spelling sorry!), last weekend he had it and last night he had it, each time its bad. He's better after last night's bout of the squits but I'm concerned the food is too high protein for him. It could have been because we also gave him a few treats on both occasions, last week he had a Misfits Wonky Chonk and was ill and this week he had a few bonio type biscuits and was ill. I'm not sure whether its just coincidence or whether the food is enough and I shouldn't feed him any other dog treats at all. He also ate cow poo yesterday which could also have made him ill.
I should also add, I know Canagan is for well exercised active dogs and Axl is walked a lot every day and is very active

Re: Canagan
Have never heard of this particular food either .. have had experience with upset tums though
If you are worried about the food you could try switching (slowly) and see if the problem stops, however as the upset tum is intermittent, personally I would be looking for 'other suspects' first. Is your worming up to date? Have you fed either of these treats before? If you feed grain free because of allergies/intolerances, do the treats have a grain in them that you need to avoid? Are they very rich treats or high in sugar/fat? Was there something else common to both days ... an activity that might have caused stress for example? Is he well otherwise?

Re: Canagan
Sometimes dogs can suffer stress through several things, including changing diet. This sometimes triggers bouts of colitis. I have had this with one of my dogs on and off for several months now. I wasn't sure whether it was something he had eaten, diet change or adding a new puppy to the equation! I went to see the vet and she recommended putting him on Purina EN or Purina HA for 8 weeks (with NO other treats in this time), just water to drink. I ordered the food but not started it, as he has not had any bouts since the vet visits so am hoping that it may just be because he eats anything when he is out and it has upset his tummy........good luck and remember not all dog foods will suit all dogs

Re: Canagan
Thanks for all your replies. I think I got to the bottom of it, I think the food is too rich for him or he just disagrees with it. I've changed him back to his old food which he got on okay with and things seem to be better
