so i just got back from the vets & he hasn't got diabetes, so thats good, but it looks like he is developing cataracts. Vet is going to speak to some specialists about what they can do in regards to surgery and the outcomes. local vet said if they are able to operate he will be normal once he's healed. Just have to check if my pet insurance covers it now. Fingers crossed. i will keep you updated!

If you haven't got pet insurance, do it now!

Slightly off topic but similar. One of my brothers recently had damage to his eye which was sorted through surgery - he had a detatched retiner and was told he would then get a cataract in that eye a bit later on in life. He will need to have the lens in his eye replaced which is now a fairly standard procedure, I'm sure the same can be said for animal surgery too.

I talked to the insurance company & it looks like the cost of the surgery (approx $5200 - for both eyes) will be covered, so that's a relief!!! Now i just have to sort out all the insurance paperwork & get him booked in. Smile

Glad to hear that you have been able to organise your insurance for the surgery - that must be a huge weight off considering the costs involved.

Remember to keep us up to date with how he is going ... paws crossed here for you both x

Poor little Jabba - I'm so sorry to hear about his problems with his eyes.

It's good news though that your insurance will pay out for his treatment, and if it's anything like the cataract ops that my mum had (in her 80s!) then all should be well with minimal discomfort to Jabba.

Sending all best wishes to you both - do keep us updated Going Blind 3198918699

So i got the estimate back from the specialist today, it's going to cost about $6200 to get both his eyes fixed. So hopefully the insurance will cover it all. fingers crossed!
Jabba is coping pretty well, he hasn't slowed down at all!!! He is barking a lot more, he can hear things but can't see them so he figures he'll just bark at the noise until something happens. Silly boy!

Just an update, got the ok from the Insurance company today & they will pay for 80% of the vet bill, so thats a relief!!! $1200 is a lot better than $6000.
So this week i will get things organised with the specialist & lock in a date!

Good news about the insurance. Please do let us know how things go with Jabba - apart from our natural concern for you and Jabba, it will also be helpful for anyone - now or in the future - who may come across this situation themselves.

All big Going Blind 3198918699  s to you both.

Jabba is booked in for a test on the 29th of October & if it's all good he will have surgery the next day, then a little holiday at the vets for a few days then back home. Lucky he loves going in the car because its a 5hr drive to Sydney for the operation!

Thanks for all the well wishes!
