Re: Body Type
It's very easy to get carried away with it. Humans are quite an addictive bunch, really. Self-critical as well.
I honestly don't know what category I'd fit into, so I'll tick one later.

I put average but I really don't know what average is.
I am not thin neither athletic so prob the best option.

Re: Body Type
I could lose a few pounds! I'm not fat - well not all over, but certain places are lumpier than they should be!
I was really skinny and thought I could eat and drink anything - until I hit the big 4 0 .
But I'd rather be a comfortably padded old woman than a bag of bones old woman, so I'm staying as I am until tummy tucks come free on NHS!

Re: Body Type
Think everyone just has their own definition of each so some find it very hard to pick which they think they are.

Hit the nail on the head there. Athletic, for example, can be either big or small - look at some rugby players compared to jockeys, for instance.BIG SBT wrote:Think everyone just has their own definition of each so some find it very hard to pick which they think they are.

Re: Body Type
I am a bit on the big side but I'm doing something about it. Started a healthier eating plan and started doing more exercise.

Re: Body Type
why is it not?Eleanor wrote:Because BMI isn't even accurate? Besides, it isn't a big deal.
Re: Body Type
Because it groups everybody into set categories, based purely on height and weight, which doesn't take into account muscle mass, bone density, etc.. Every person is different. It also doesn't give you your body type exactly; only your weight type. Normal weight, overweight, underweight, obese, etc..

Re: Body Type
but you can getting a roughly idea from it if you 6 stone over there you big if you stone over then you can class yourself Average if you got an semi or an full blown 6pac then your Athletic if you just bones then your thin
Re: Body Type
That's not what he was saying though. He said that people have different views of body types and what classes as a particular body type, not that it was impossible to decide. More like it's just something to take into account when reading through other answers.

BMI is the biggest load of crap EVER!Steve wrote:why is it hard use the BMI website
I have played rugby for best part of 10 years, i weigh alot more then most lasses my age, yet i am more the athletic body but am a funny shape due to the muscle gain from it.

Re: Body Type
oo dear so the people who spend year and probably more year working it out are wrong i really do give up
Re: Body Type
yep basically, Steve BMI doesn't work it is to general. As Eleanor said all it does is use your age, height and weight, HOW is that EVER going to be accurate.
It's not simple as.

Re: Body Type
It isn't a total load of rubbish. It has its place, but there are limitations. For instance, somebody who doesn't do an excessive amount of working out or muscle building exercises could use it to get a rough estimate of their ideal weight. I had to use it last year, although that was only because my dietician forced me to, and it actually helped a lot with some issues I had because it made me realise that I wasn't a whale

Re: Body Type
I thought I was going to have a heart attack when she told me what my BMI was. I was thinking it'd be up in the 30s, when it was actually around 18
So yeah, it's useful in certain circumstances. But if I'd been somebody who played a lot of heavy duty sports, it probably wouldn't have been as accurate.

that and the fact they have to look twice at the scales, thinking it must be wrong

Re: Body Type
Oh dear!
Just realised I haven't actually voted. Hmm... I think for me it'd be 'A few extra pounds', which I've actually been meaning to lose.
