My girl is growing up !

I thought she had been acting differently and I thought it was because her playmate had gone back home after her holiday,,,,, Molly has started her first season. Now I had no problems dealing with this with my daughters but feel a bit lost with a dog.
Is there anything I should do for her, how long does it last, how often does it happen and how do I keep the carpet clean. Also is there a problem taking her out.

Lasts roughly a month, with the spotting being about 3 weeks. We used Mika Hygiene pants when she was at home to save the carpet and furniture, as for walks well we had to do it at normal times but she was always kept on a lead and we did more pavement walking than parks where other dogs would be believe me the males want the females but the females want it also! As for there mood, I just let her get on with it. Xx

Thank you Janey. I was being a bit lazy (sorry) I have searched on here as well to answer some of my questions.
It is strange though how clingy she became over the last couple of days. I have tried sitting her down and telling her the facts of life but she just licked my face and went back to sleep.
