Hello all!
A little bit late to this as my staffy appears to be on his last legs unfortunately. I'm here for a little support, guidance and advice. I'm Stacey & my 5 year old red staffy, Barney has been diagnosed with a neurological injury and possible fractured spine. He's deteriorated rapidly since Tuesday when he hurt himself chasing birds in the garden... Off to a spinal surgeon today & praying for a miracle xxx

Re: Hello all!
Hello everybody and thanks so much for your kind words. Being able to vent some of my thoughts is really therapeutic for me... I've said a few words about his progress in another topic but here it is again. Sorry if you're reading this twice!! I do tend to ramble!
Just back from the doggie hospital. He's had an MRI and they've found extensive bruising to his spinal cord along most of the bottom part of his back. There's no treatment, we just have to hope and pray it gets better on its own. The main worry is his incontinence and they've put him on drugs to contract his bladder and try to kick start it back into normal function. If that doesn't work then the decision will have to be made. With all the best will in the world, we can't manage supportive care at home for the rest of his life for something like incontinence. He can live his life with a limp leg or tail but when we're talking catheters and manual expression, it's no life for him or us. On the plus side, he still has working reflexes in his bottom so he's not completely paralysed. The surgeon said it was a good sign. So keep him in your prayers. Hopefully on Monday we can have our bear back home xxx

Hello and welcome to the forum from me and the kids
The kids have all their paws crossed for Barney and lets all hope for some good news , seems that you are getting some hopeful feedback .
Can I ask exactly what he did , was it just a bizarre accident or something you can advise on that might help others preventing something similar ??

Re: Hello all!
Just a bizarre accident... He was chasing a pigeon around the garden, jumped up, yelped and couldn't move his back leg. He since lost control of his bladder and bowels and his tail is completely limp... I don't think it could have been prevented xx
