Hello
Hi. Am pleased to have found you all.
I have 2 Staffies. Kaycee is nearly 5, a brindle bitch. We had her as a rescue dog nearly 3 years ago. She is a big Staffie and probably a bit overweight. She loves to play and is a typical "Nannie" dog especially to grand kids whom she adores.
We have recently adopted another bitch Staffie (3weeks ago), Lulu who is black & white. She is 20 months old and also loves the kids. As she is still young, she is very playful but also very obedient. Both dogs get on brilliantly with our 3 cats, to the point that they let the cats rub themselves all over them and sleep with them on "their" sofa. It is a joy to behold and we are very lucky that they all get on so well. Both dogs groom each other and are always together.
However, I do have 2 concerns with Lulu.
1) She is not completely toilet trained. We have a dog flap and both dogs use this. Lulu will still wee wherever she is, and occasionally poo too. In the mornings the floor is always soaking wet. As soon as she hears us coming down the stairs she bolts outside and won't come in. We thought maybe she didn't like the dark, so we keep the light on for her and also when it is wet outside it is always worse. We praise her when she wee's outside, or when there is no mess or wet inside. My theory was reward with good behaviour but this does not seem to be working. She lived in a garage before we had her with open access to the garden, so am not sure if she was actually housetrained or not. I guess we just need to be patient as it is only 3 weeks.
2) She suffers terribly with separation anxiety when we go out. She will pick anything up she can find and bury it in her bed. She found my daughter-in-laws make up bag and took every item out and placed in her bed but didn't chew anything. Same with shoes, bags etc. however, she has destroyed every cushion on my kitchen chairs and also the foam in her bed. Again, when she has done something like this she scoots outside and sits there shaking. We have talked firmly to her but never smacked or shouted at her. I have left the radio on for her but makes no difference. I thought having Kaycee for company would make a difference but it doesn't seem to have. They have 2 walks a day, and as I am not working she is usually with me. We have tried the leaving her for a few minutes and going back etc and she doesn't cry or how at all. She has an old cardigan of mine that has my smell on it but again has made no difference. If anybody has any tips I would be so grateful. She really is the perfect dog apart from these 2 things. Thank you for listening and sorry for the long post x

Re: Hello
Hi &welcome to the forum from me and Gwen! Gwen is 8 months old and we have had a REALLY hard time training her!! She is doing better now but still not 100%!
I would go back to basics with the potty training. Take her out every 2 hours on a lead and try to go to the same spot every time! Say a phrase every time ("do your business" or whatever you want to use) Say it when you get outside and also say it while she's actually going! That way she will start to associate the phrase with the act of going to the bathroom. When she goes in the right spot praise her like crazy and give her a treat! If she has an accident/goes in the wrong spot don't say anything just bring her outside and say the phrase! Also clean any accidents with a cleaner that will remove the smell! If she smells it she will continue to go there! Good luck!

Re: Hello
Thanks for your warm welcome. They are walked for an hour in the morning and hour and half in the evening. They're both shattered when they get back. I'm gonna go back to basics with toilet training and hope that helps. What is the spray that you mentioned BIG SBT? I use the simple solution when I clean up after her "accidents"
However, this morning when I came back from their walk I shut the kitchen door after mopping (usual daily clean) but left door to garden open. I was only 5 minutes if that, and she not only wee'd on kitchen floor (she had done 2 where's over the park which impraisedmher for) , but she totally destroyed my prize Japanese Petunia. Not only did she chew the top part of the plant off but she uprooted the whole thing and brought it into her bed!!!!!! She knew she had done wrong because as soon as I opened the door she shot outside and wouldn't come in, even for a treat. So am going to,read the advice links and go from there. Thanks again
