Hello
weve had our staff since he was 5months old (hes now 8months)
weve been told were around the 4th owner ? (poor chap)
he is very good with our boys hes also very good with other dogs
he loves our cats but they don't seem to like him,
he is very fussy with his food,
he does pull a bit on his lead,
we have been told he is cross with a American staff ?

Re: Hello
Hi and welcome from Rocky and I
I found it took me quite a while to get Rocky to walk perfectly on lead, he is now 7 months, and only got it perfect not long ago, I would suggest going back to basics with lead training, and also when he is pulling on lead, you can try stopping, walking in the opposite direction and when has followed without pulling, walk back in your original direction.
In regards to food, what is he currently being fed?

Re: Hello
Hi Damian and Laura, welcome to you and Patch!
When I joined this forum a year ago, when my pup was the same age as Patch is now, I was being driven frantic with trying to get food into him, he was so fussy. I got loads of good advice here and tried practically everything, including Science Plan, which he ate for a day and then turned his nose up at the next. I soon discovered that he wasn't really keen on dry foods at all, wouldn't even contemplate raw, and ended up giving him something called Moist Mince (can't remember who makes it) but even then I had to mix something different and tempting into it every day, like bits of cooked liver, sardines in oil, bits of cooked chicken, Butcher's Tripe etc etc etc.
My breakthrough came when he had The Op, and wouldn't eat anything at all and in desperation I went to Pets At Home and bought a box of their Wainwrights Trays and he loved it immediately. He now has 3/4 of a tray a day (which may go up to a whole tray a day in winter - we'll see when the time comes).
I can't promise that this will be the answer for Patch because each dog is different, but it's worth a try - it worked for me and Kuch!
If, unlike me, you're strong-minded there is always the tough-love approach, also very much recommended on here, in that no dog will starve itself. After 2 days without food I would guess he'll be ready, willing and eager to eat anything you care to give him tomorrow!
Do let us know how you get on - and don't despair!
