Hello
Hi, just popping in to introduce myself and my dog.
I've just recently adopted a 2 year old (approx) staffy from the SSPCA rescue centre. He was picked up as a stray so they didn't know his exact age or name. I've called him Bjorn at the suggestion of my Danish friend.
This is my first staffy but I have a lot of experience with dogs, mainly had boxers before. I felt my current city centre flat was a bit too small for a boxer though, Bjorn's more the right size and I wanted to try and get a rescue dog which as I'm sure you know seem to mainly be staffys.
He's a lovely boy, brindle with a white flash down his chest. He's a pretty big lump with a big wide head. I'll post a pic soon in the appropriate thread.
He wasn't the only dog I looked at, in fact I hadn't gone there to look at him at all as he wasn't on their website but we really clicked instantly and I could tell he really took to me.
He's very friendly and affectionate, a bit too affectionate at the moment as he's very boisterous. He has a few issues that I will need to work through but nothing major. He's still in the settling down stage of course after being at the kennels for a while so he's a bit hyper and anxious (and a bit farty!).
So far I've taken him on several good walks around a busy part of the city and he's very passive towards people and other animals. Two dogs (not on leads approached him and he just walked past them unfazed). He walks very well on the lead, hardly pulling at all and is easily corrected when he does.
Main issues at the moment; he's very mouthy at the moment and especially with him being so strong that's obviously something that needs to be corrected. It seems like he's desperate to show affection and that's his way of doing it, he gets a bit frustrated and grumpy when I stop him.
He's also very clingy at the moment which I think is to be expected from a dog with his history although he's getting more relaxed.
I'm forcing myself to ignore him a bit so he can get used to chilling out in his new house without me constanlty giving him attention. Once I ignore him for a bit he settles and goes for a kip on his blanket.
I've been reading these forums for a few days and they're great, a lot of good info on the breed. Look forward to reading and sharing more in the future.

Re: Hello
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Sounds like you are doing all the right things there so far anyway. Just give him time to settle in with you and gain your trust I'm sure he will do just fine.
Do you know what food he was eating before ? This may be the cause of the bottom burbs.
So long as he gets lots of love, plenty of walks and a safe loving home you won't have anything to worry about, Have fun best of luck to you both.
