What to do?
Hey everyone:)
Still in the middle of moving- cant believe the amount of work that is still to be done, but we love it.
Anyway Otis is having a little problem at the moment as people many know Otis has recently just got over a skin infection and was on cephorum antibiotics. He finished them around Thrusday this week. We have also recently changed his food from Arden grange to applaws, which is quite high protein.
Throughout all this he has been vomiting on a very regular basis. I was told by the vet that the antibiotics can strip his stomach, but also could the food be too high in protein for him?
I'm just looking for advice as its getting so unfair for him to be vomiting at least once a day over the past week
Do I starve him for 24 hours to settle his stomach and give him some boiled chicken and rice? I am ringing the vets tomorrow also.
Cheers as always everyone

Re: What to do?
Not sure Sarah but starving him couldn't hurt. Did you change the food gradually or just swap it straight over? Don't know much about dried food but someone else will. Hope you get on ok at the vets x

Ohh thanks Caryll I will find some tomorrow. Do you think even though the course is finished it could still be making him sick?
We changed his food very slowly as he also went on antibiotics at the same time, so it was over 2 weeks ish.

Re: What to do?
Antibiotics strip the gut of all the useful bacteria that balance the digestion. It's possible that he'll need a hand to get them at the right levels again.
If it doesn't help within a couple of days, though, I'd give the vet a ring.

Well I reached the end of my tether and took him to the vets. The vet must be like 'oh god this woman again'
Anyways he was more than pleasent and gave Otis a fuss. Otis had a thorough check over and we have come away with cimetidine and sucralfate which hopefully will help to protect his stomach whilst the lining repairs, assuming this is the case, we obvioulsy have to go back if he doesn't improve. Only on day 2, so I am hoping to see an improvement
He did like the yoghurt though

Re: What to do?
We always give Rocky a little yoghurt if he has an upset tummy, it has always worked so far anyway.

Re: What to do?
The cimetidine should stop him vomiting, and as said above - live yoghurt (the Greek sort) will be kind on his tummy and help repopulate his gut with "good" bacteria (this works for humans as well after anti-biotics).
Get well soon Otis
