Off licence Empty Off licence

The cob topic reminded me of this one. The person I knew who ate cobs called the off licence the 'out door' I had never heard of this. I call it the off licence or the 'offy'. What do you call it? biggrin

Off Licence.

But the 'Out Door' I think was because the pubs used to have a window (or door) that opened out into the street for people to buy alcohol for drinking off the premises.

not seen an off licence in years ???? how unbelievable

Should have gone to specsavers

Though fact is they will probably e referred to as Bargain Booze or Victoria Wines these days ( same function just more classy )

Just cottoned onto the comment now , are you reerring to the pub that had its little takeaway space like Caryll now Lynda ??? I can only ever remember one in my whole life which was the Jubilee in Shildon , we used to be able to buy cider in there at 14 for the disco , happy days Big Grin

That's probably it Dave! They're called everything these days except offys. I was just harking back to pre-historic times when the only offy was a little side door at a pub where you could sneak in to buy a half bottle of light ale "to wash your hair" and got it if you were lucky, or a flea in your ear if you were not.
