12 months? or 12 weeks?
well noah is just over 12 months old and shows no signs of losing his puppy behaviour, he can't handle visitors , he's pees all over them and constantly jumps up, not good when you have 3 grandchildren under 4.
i told him "down" till i'm blue in the face, he is the same with me and my wife, if i go to the loo for maybe 2 minutes its like i've been away for weeks, and no matter how long the people are in the house for he never calms down.
most people have said castration will calm him down , but i don't think it would.
apart from this he is excellent. i've held him on his lead in a room full of people for 15 minutes to get him used to them, but as soon as i let him off he goes crackers, peeing, jumping up etc.
i'm starting to dread visits from my family.

I agree I don't think there is any proof that castration calms them down. Unfortunately I haven't had a dog from pup so there will be other people with better advise.
Have you tried a time out? When Daisy gets over excited I make her sit and stay, if when I let her off she does the same then its sit and stay again and so on.

Castration can help, but there is no certainty it will. Training is the best way forward Xx

12 months of training have got us nowhere, we both feed him we both walk him.

Have you taught stay? I would start by making him stay and just taking one step back then back to him and praise but no jumping, gradually extend this to 2, 3 steps out of the room etc, each time when you return praise him but no jumping up, if he does a no and and turn away, I have a 4 paws on the floor training game, I will dig that out tomorrow and post again for you x

Great advice above back to basics with training, it takes a a lot of persistence from everyone including visitors, even just telling them Noah is in training and ask if they could tell him sit when greeting, or whatever words you are using. Consistency and perseverance is the key! good luck

I agree that getting him neutered probably won't help at all. Gwen is 7 months old now and she is just so out of control! I know how frustrating it can be! I would go back to basics with training. Start from the very beginning! Make sure you and everyone else in your house is consistent!

If your not sure if castrate will help - why not chemically castrate him to see if it has any effect before you go the whole hog!

Re: 12 months? or 12 weeks?
I never thought I'd get there with Hugo, he is a month off being 2 and defiantly in the last 2 month I've noticed a change in his behaviour. He has his mad moments dont get me wrong but he has calmed down. Hugo was castrated at 12months old. My reasons where to prevent health problems further down the line, not to calm him down

Re: 12 months? or 12 weeks?
This is the 4 paws on the floor training game, hope it helps
3 rules
1. When you want to interact with him and he has all 4 paws on the floor and is calm and quiet you should praise him, fuss, treat him etc
2. As soon as his paws leave the floor he is completely invisible
3. Rules 1 and 2 apply at all times not just during training
Put yourself in a situation where you know he will jump up eg go out the door and come back in.
As soon as his paws leave the floor, turn away and ignore him
When he keeps 4 paws on the floor, pause for a moment then praise him, fuss him or give him a treat
As soon as he gets too excited and starts to jump he is invisible again
Just keep repeating this
Also then make it more difficult by encouraging him to jump, start with just a little then once he's got each stage make it more difficult.
You'll also need to get friends and family to do it too so he understands it applies to all people.
