what i have done is draw of where i want to end up and every week i mark where i am.
every time i eat something i write it down so i can find the right amount to have each day so if lose to much i can eat a bit more i want to lose weight but i dont want to make myself ill while doing it... so it be like day 1, day 2, day 3 and so on
this what i go by at the moment
2 shapes
3 apples
4 gherkins
700g of whatever i'm having curry, chill, sunday dinner and so on
2 tomates

Seems like you got it well sorted, I have never really gone down the diet route as don't put on too much weight.

Nah, no charts for me. I don't like diets - makes it seem like a temporary thing. I'm just really strict about what I eat.

They can work for anyone, as long as it's what that particular person is able to work with.

Re: people on diets?
i think just writing what you eat is good enough but i want to know how im doing if i'm losing to much weight or not losing it quick enough. i dont want to make myself ill by not eating enough but i dont want to be doing this for the next 10 years
Re: people on diets?
It's a good way to keep track of it. Have you calculated your BMR? It's a good way of estimating how many calories you need to take in to lose/gain weight.

I think once you have lost what you want to, its a good idea to find out what you can eat to keep it at that level, far too many people lose just too much and end up looking quite ill.

The BMR is how many calories you burn just being alive each day.
Once you figure out your BMR, you can adjust it to how much exercise you do:
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/
And that gives you an estimation of how many calories you'd need to eat to lose weight. I find it really helpful.

A very sweeping statement - quantify?
Steve wrote:why wont it?
It will. Everybody has different levels of willpower/drive/motivation. If the chart helps you, then it's a great idea! Men or women, it doesn't matte - you do what works for you & keeps you healthy.
P.S. Eleanor has done so much research on calorie/fat intake compared to calory requirements - believe me, she knows what she's talking about!

Re: people on diets?
i put weight on far to easy i'm sick of being extra pound club so this is the time i'm going do it right and proper
Re: people on diets?
That's a good start. I've lost a stone since March, but I'm taking it quite slowly cause my oh's dieting as well (high blood pressure) and he'd find it hard to cut back all at once.

Re: people on diets?
Same here, but my oh has been told he has to lose weight because of his high blood pressure, so I've joined him so that he'll keep at it!

Translation: Eleanor is an obsessive and very strange person, so don't disagree with her - she'll do strange things to your shoes.

yer but how many people my age or younger have been on diets for years?
I've been the same weight now for 8 years every since i started playing rugby (which i can't do now) doesn't matter how much i eat or not i stay the same. But i'm not the type of person to care about diets they just don't interest me but to each their own

Re: people on diets?
I lost 3st in 7 months with slimming world and have now kept at target (+/- 3lb) for 8 months
For me to stay on it I had to keep a food diary just about being honest with yourself, and our group had a Facebook diary page to post pics for meal ideas etc which helped
Just losing the weight made exercise easier and now I can be much more relaxed with what I eat, if I fancy something I have it, as I know what I need to do to bring it back on track. I wouldn't say it was dieting as such i definitely eat more now and I can have pretty much all my favourite meals with slimming world it's just about preparing it the right way and planning meals/snack options
