A lot of people prefer to get two dogs of the opposite sex, as they can be easier to manage, but that doesn't mean that two bitches are necessarily going to fight and give you a lot of grief. Smile

If you're worried about them scrapping, there are some things that you can do to make the introductory phase a lot easier. Making sure you buy new things for your puppy, rather than expecting her to share with your current dog, can help, as it prevents jealousy or possessiveness.

You can also try introducing them in a garden (as long as it's closed off, so that the new puppy won't get infections before her vaccinations) to provide a neutral ground for them both.

The important thing is to supervise play at all times so that you can pick up on any potential issues before they become serious. Smile

As Eleanor says above, so long as the introductions are done correctly on neutral ground there should be no reason why they would not get along just fine.

I know many people who have 2 dogs of the same sex and they get along very well. How old is your spaniel girl ?

I have a male staffy and male american bulldog and they get on amazingly, never once in almost 2 years faught.

So same sex can most definitely work if you are prepared for maybe hard work

If you're worried about introducing her to your cats, there's a page on our website for that. It might give you some ideas. Smile

You never know until you try (100%), but if you haven't had any problems with your current gal, my guess is it will be ok. I do recommend you feed separately and never leave them unattended together just to avoid possible problems. Introduce to cats per above link. Hopefully it will work out, but sometimes it can be difficult. When we rescued Frosty, it became clear quickly that he wasn't going to be safe around the cat. He was older though so a pup is defo the time to introduce and teach. Once they get older, you may not be able to.

I have a friend with three females a male and a cat... she has no problems at all and the girls are a joy to be around on walks. Bit batty but full of fun and joy and not a hint of agression.

Staffy bitches can be quite dominant over other bitches. If your spaniel is submissive it might be okay (and you won't be able to tell until the staff comes into herself more, so a few months) if she is dominant...you might run into a few problems.

I'm assuming your new girl is a puppy as you don't mention ?? Sure you will be fine just take all the advice as above . I have opposite sex because I played it safe but many of the points here regarding introductions , toys , feeding etc are all valid regardless , good luck and please keep us posted on your progress.
If you do experience any issues we are all here to help Smile
