Re: Help!
Hi Michele, welcome to the forum.
Is there any way you can put on a couple of photos of the sores?
Also, what food does he get (brand as well as type), and what, if anything, have you used other than the vet's tablets?

He may have an allergy to certain types of food, grains are prone to causing allergies in dogs, what do you feed ? Does it have a high percentage of grain ?

Re: Help!
Hello Michelle, welcome to the forum
My staff also suffers from allergies. The sores can look quite painful and red so I apply Sudocreme to ease any itching and redness, although like you mentioned, the sores dont seem to bother them.
Also, Ive recently been checking daily for the pollen count and if it's quite high, I will give my staff a Piriton allergy tablet in the morning and keep him away from long grass during his walks.

Re: Help!
Please, please, please get him off Bakers! It's full of additives that are known to cause hyperactivity, skin problems & even cancer! It's an awful food.
If you can afford it, try a grain free food such as James Wellbeloved, or Wainwrights. Eden's another one, but that's quite pricey. Or even consider going raw!
You can try Piriton (start off with half a tablet, twice a day) - it may help, it may not, but it won't harm. But I'd also get him off that food asap.
There's a spray called Dermacton that is very soothing for sores etc & might be useful to you.

Re: Help!
Hi and welcome from Chiquito and I
Chiquito has allergies as well. He is now on a raw diet which has made a big difference for him .. he also takes fish oil daily and has his feet washed each time he comes in off the grass.
Depending upon how bad the allergy symptoms (and the sores) are at the time, he takes a Zyrtec (same as Piriton) tablet daily and uses an antibacterial soak. I apply topical creams as well, though what one depends upon whether there is an infection or just an itchy sore.

Re: Help!
Hiya from me and Vinnie, Foster is gorgeous. Vin had skin probs but changed his diet and now use a oil in a pump on his food called Viacutan plus. 4 squirts on food until improvement then 2. Vin still has 2 squirts even now but I do increase it if he gets itching or sore. You can get it from ebay or amazon.

Re: Help!
Hi and welcome to the forum from Gwen and I! Can you possibly get some pics up of the sores? I would definitely get him off the Bakers immediately and switch to a grain free food if you can afford it! Make sure you don't just switch right over..do it gradually over a week time period and slowing mix in the new food with the old food to avoid and upset tummy!

Re: Help!
Raw food, if you want to take the plunge, has been excellent for my dog's condition. And going back to basics with the purest ingredients possible is going to help. So food with as few grains/additives in as possible with high meat/fish content. You may want to supplement with some actual basic ingredients also - an egg, for instance.
I sometimes think some dog food is the equivalent of McDonalds, except manufacturers have convinced owners that it is healthy. Imagine what they put in it - the cheapest ingredients possible.
Let us know progresss. It will probably take... three months or so?
Perhaps take pictures to record size of sores and help you work out whether he is getting better.
