Newbie from France saying Hi to the members
Hello everyone,
I'm a new and very proud staffie owner. My puppy girl called Papoutch will be welcomed home tomorrow, so as I can't think of something else to make the seconds go faster I thought to say hello to everyone in here!
I'm super stressed, duper excited and insanely happy!
I would like to ask for your kind opinion regarding how to introduce Papoutch to my 1.5 year cat. Gaby - the cat - never accepted the presence of any other animal.
Once again, nice meeting you all and thank you for your help!

Hello everyone! Papoutch is home! So far so good.. No conflict with the cat. She's observing a lot and of course, she's on guard, but I think in a couple of weeks everything will be just fine. I suppose a little slap from the cat won't harm that much, Papoutch will understand straight that she needs to respect her privacy. So, thanks again for your messages and talk soon! Have a fantastic Sunday!

Re: Newbie from France saying Hi to the members
Hi Pap! I don't know about any "right" way of doing it but I can share the experience I had when I introduced Charger (my boy staff) to Littlefoot - the ragdoll ratbag cat it only took a day and I left them to their own devices.
I started with shutting the cat in my bedroom and spent a couple of hours with Charger having the run of the house and the yard while I was with him, before I reversed it and put Charger in the bedroom and let the cat have the run of the house and yard, again while I was with the cat. The thinking behind that was so the cat would see that the dog wasn't replacing him, but that they both had an equal share of my attention and affection and neither would 'demote' the other.
The next step, I picked up the cat and let the dog out of the bedroom and while holding the cat crouched down to introduce them, being sure that the cat felt protected. It hissed and tensed and claws dug into me, as it does with any cat, but not in an overly damaging way. I then left the cat have the full run of the house while I took Charger outside for a few hours, letting him investigate his new home and mark his territory.
When I came back inside, I went and got the cat and introduced them again, while holding the cat, staying longer in the crouched position and eventually just sitting on the floor, holding the cat and patting the dog. After a while I put the cat back in the bedroom and walked out, leaving the door open and went out into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
The cat was still very wary and sat at a safe height watching the dog until I went to bed. When I walked into my bedroom I found the dog next to the cat and they were grooming each other. There were still moments of hissing from the cat for a few days but pretty much they have been best mates ever since
Good luck with your Papoutch and your kitty
