Scared/jumpy puppy
Hi everyone my puppy is 18 weeks old and has been excellent with all training, the only problem is that she is scared easily, I'm not entirely sure what to do when she gets scared by something, I don't want to encourage the behaviour by giving too much attention but also don't want to b too harsh when she needs reassurance!! She doesn't growl or become defensive she just gets scared!!! Any advice would b appreciated thanks :-) X

Re: Scared/jumpy puppy
Rocky does get quite scared easily and jumpy in a lot of situations, if we are out for a walk and he hears another dog barking or hears a weird unfamiliar noise he literally runs with such fear, but I just tell him 'its okay' and keep walking to distract him, he has slowly eased out of it as time has gone on, has adapted quite well, and this was only recently that I noticed an improvement, he is 6 months.

Thanks for the reply, that's great u have seen an improvement, I was hoping that Lexxi would just get better with age, it's more noises she gets scared of, hates being in the car and when the window cleaners came the other day she cowered at my feet!!

Darcy can be very jittery with something or nothing, I just distract her and carry on, no amount of coaxing will make her like the Hoover though

Chiquito has always been a bit scared of the world as well, though at around 5 months I noticed he started to become more brave ... he is 6 months now and is far more sure of himself and less scared
You are doing well by not giving too much attention when scared - just keep on keeping on as if nothing is wrong is the best approach. I will say if I do find if something is particularly scaring Chiquito though, me touching or showing him the thing often helps - not always possible but an easy way to introduce then to new 'scary' things.
