Am i doing the right thing?
Bruiser is 6 months now and ever since i got him from the breeder he has been on Bakers puppy dry food, i've kept him on it as he seemed to enjoy it for ages, also i put meat and veg scraps etc in with hes meals daily.
Over the past 2 weeks he has been turned hes nose up at it! bugger! he does eat it eventually, but then a dog will eat anything when its hungry right?
Im wondering if he is trying to pull a fast one because my partner often feels sorry for him and gives him treats instead!
Should i stick to the food and my guns or give in and start a different brand?!

Re: Am i doing the right thing?
I had Lola on Bakers to begin with, it isn;t the best dog food for a puppy as I found out from here. It is full of rubbish tbh. And can also make a dog hyper.
There are loads of threads of food and I for one found out a lot from reading them.
I changed to beta and never looked back, it's full of natural ingredients and you can get it from pets at home and they also have a great offer on at the moment, 3 for 2 so yougt a 3kg bag for free, it's £799.

Re: Am i doing the right thing?
Bruno was on Bakers small dog when i first got him, but he didnt seem to like it but thats what the woman was feeding the puppies on, so i put it down to settling in period but no, the vet told us put him on puppy food, so we put him on JWB and he loves it, eats it in 2 minutes

Hollie loves her Wainwrights, she's had Turkey n Rice alternated with Lamb n Rice, and now she's on Duck n Rice alternating with Lamb n Rice, but, I always put 1/4 tin of Tuna in Sunflower Oil into it, she has a lovely shiny coat and is thriving on it, it's £33.50 for a large 15kg bag, but it lasts her ages.

it may be the tuna - woody goes wild for it! was making some sandwiches at 6am one morning forwork and he was barking his head off when i put the remainder in the fridge - so as not to disturb the neighbours i had to give him it!
woody started on bakers, swiftly changed him to JWB and he's now on natures diet

Re: Am i doing the right thing?
I buy the Tuna whenever it's on offer in the supermarkets 'cos it's usually quite expensive when in the Sunflower Oil, the last time I bought it, it was £5 for 8 cans, so bought 24 cans of it 1 can lasts 2 days

They certainly look alike although Woody's got quite a bit more muscle than Hollie, like I previously said I hope she grows up just like him

Re: Am i doing the right thing?
harvey was on the reaally cheap tesco version of dog food which i quickly changed to JWB but after we got a free bag of Hill vetsEssentials we tried him on a little bit and he loves them and seems to prefer them to JWB so we have just bought a 10kg for about £33

Re: Am i doing the right thing?
GET HIM OFF THE BAKERS!!!!!!!
Sorry, my pet hate! It's absolutely full of flavourings, colours, scents etc that will do him no good whatsoever & could make him hyper!
Wainrights (from Pets at Home) is a good lower priced dry food (I think they do tins as well, but I'm not keen on tinned food), or you could try a raw diet!

Totally agree, now I know better. It's like feeding a baby mcdonalds, now we wouldn't do that!

He also enjoys eating the cats food i know... i do try to stop him. loldebbiewaterhouse wrote:Hollie loves her Wainwrights, she's had Turkey n Rice alternated with Lamb n Rice, and now she's on Duck n Rice alternating with Lamb n Rice, but, I always put 1/4 tin of Tuna in Sunflower Oil into it, she has a lovely shiny coat and is thriving on it, it's £33.50 for a large 15kg bag, but it lasts her ages.
Re: Am i doing the right thing?
Hi - pets at home have both wainwrights and new own brand called advanced nutrition which are both very good, bakers is like feeding a child coca cola and crisps lol - u may get a superharged lunatic in return from all the additives!! i had my new puppy on burgers supadog puppy as thats what he was on at kennels but he was always poorly and we changed him to advanced nutrition and he is sooooo much healthier and better :-) its worth the extra few pounds and it contains over 40% fresh meat which is very good. but don't keep giving in or he will play u - our older staffie got us with that one til we realised!! they are crafty little tykes!
