First Pitbull Close up
Last night i was at a band parade and seen my first Pitbull Close up, was brown and looked awful skinny although im judging by Boss's size at the same age. The woman told me he was 6 months but had the physique of a whippet/greyhound it was very skinny although i didnt want to offend her so i didnt mention it lol. Boss when he was 6 months could have eaten it, although dogs grow at different rates so it could have just been a slow grower. she wasnt to bothered about the fact the place was full of police and its illegal to have one but thats just Northern Ireland for you! other than its weight it was a very nice gentle dog and i was happy to have met one in real life

Re: First Pitbull Close up
I have actually never seen a pit bull outside of pics in books or on the web ... would have no idea if they were meant to be thin or otherwise!
Interesting that she was happy to openly discuss an illegal dog in that kind of forum - each to their own though I guess.

Re: First Pitbull Close up
It was more likely to be a staffy or american bulldog cross breed. Extremely difficult to illegally import a genuine pitbull.

Re: First Pitbull Close up
Yes I would agree it would more than likely be a cross, but I have never seen a pitbull in real life either!

I've seen quite a few pit bulls before and it's very difficult to mistake them for anything else. They have quite a strong presence!

Re: First Pitbull Close up
here in Ireland and Northern Ireland they are very popular, infact im pretty sure we have the highest breeding rate for them and import them to germany many years ago.. most of the pitbulls in England come from Ireland. This pitbull was 100% pitbull which was why i was so pleased to see it. ofc everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this was a pitbull not a cross.

Re: First Pitbull Close up
Technically all pitbulls are crosses, there is the "pitbull" aka crosses bred to look like a pit and there is the dog that is actually the american pitbull. The "pitbull" you saw is more likely to have been a cross breed from a BYB as it is very unlikely someone would have got a real pitbull from america or europe. They also would never ever boast about the fact as they would have went to alooooooooooooot of bother and money to get one so not risk it being taken.

possibly but my Boss is a american bulldog x Staffy and looked nothing like this thing, had a completely different shaped head.Eleanor wrote:It was more likely to be a staffy or american bulldog cross breed. Extremely difficult to illegally import a genuine pitbull.

Thing is, you wouldn't be able to say if it was 100% or not just by looking at it. A lot of crosses look very much like pits.

The pit bull terrier isn't recognised as a breed by the KC, no, but there is a difference. Pit bulls, although crossed themselves, are nowadays generally crossed with other pits. So any crosses with entirely different breeds are likely to be a lot further back in the generations.

That's because crosses generally have no absolute distinctive traits. They all inherit different amounts from each parent.

That's my point - they're not pit bulls, as such. They're crosses to look like the general pit bull type. Also, I wouldn't go by that website if I were you. On the first page alone, there is false advertising - no way of telling who's genuine or not.

alot of them are not pitbulls, or even crosses. The dog you saw sounds like a staffy X sighthound, it gives them the thiner look with longer legs to give a 'pitbull' appearance.
I've met true APBT in america and they are very obvious when you have a well bred pitty

All im saying is i was told it was a pitbull lol i dont care if it was 200% pitbull or 0.2% pitbull. It looked like one to me and in belfast there are alot of pitbulls, maybe not 'pure' ones but defo 'pitbull type' it was a lovely dog. maybe i should have taken a picture but didnt want to sound dodgy, i know i wouldnt fancy anyone taking pics of my dog incase they followed me and tried to take him.

Re: First Pitbull Close up
Then again how do you know they arnt pitbulls? everyone says you cant tell by just looking? otherwise we wouldnt have problems with having to many of them around, if you can visually tell a dog is or is not a pitbull why are staffys being put down over someone thinking its a pitbull or 'type' dog? a friend of mine had a big white staffy and got it taken off her for AGES and she had to go through courts and what not to get him back.ella wrote:BIG SBT wrote:All im saying is i was told it was a pitbull lol i dont care if it was 200% pitbull or 0.2% pitbull. the pitbull type goes on measurements not just looks. They physically measure the dog.
a TRUE pit is a very obvious dog, i've met alot of them in the US so legal dogs, not the strange cross bred 'pits' you get here

Re: First Pitbull Close up
When you search Apbt on wiki the dog that comes up on the right is a thin tan pitbull and the one i seen last night looks identical only darker brown. I get what your saying about just cause she says it is doesnt mean it is. it also had really weird looking eyes lol.

Re: First Pitbull Close up
If people were bringing pits into the UK this is the channel they would take, ie. importing into northern Ireland under a different breed name and then transporting to the UK. I have seen a program about it where the bbc actually did this and brought a pit from Finland (I think) to the UK. So it is possible... So sorry but you can get purebred pits here and I have seen them with my own eyes! It bugs me that people think just cus a law has been passed means people are not finding ways to break it!

Re: First Pitbull Close up
Oh yeah course its stupid why would you get a pet, fall in love with it and then tempt fate. Maybe this woman thinks its cool and well 'ard to have a pit. That's why I could never have one imagine the heartache involved. I don't think people like that woman get their dog to be a pet though or they wouldn't take the risk! And sorry guys I wasn't disagreeing just Steve always gets mad with me and tells me that there are no real pits in the UK

Re: First Pitbull Close up
the people who have real 100% pitbull wont tell an fly if they live in country where they are banned, becasue they know they could get the dog took off them. people who going telling people they have an pitbull have bought an dog from an back yard breeder who are trying to sell their poor breed dog fast that what normal happen, an pitbull breeder wouldn't sell their dog to any tom, * or harry becasue they know it could be easy be trace back to them.

I disagree, the people who think they are well hard with their staffy crosses run about telling people they are pits, people with real pits do not because they will not risk the amount of money it took to get them! I think you are just being pig headed and convinced you are hard lad in with the pitbull folk. Go learn something.

the way id judge if it was a full pit is if it looked like it was frowning thats why i do anyway i was convinced one of my pups was a pit at one point just because loads of people were telling me she looks like one but her face doesnt frown that much and all the pits i see online and on the instagram app on phones they all seem to be frowning haha
