Coooooooooooooooooooooow
Just walked lexi as usual past the cows, norrmal. On the way home though she took a total tiss and started barking at them hackles raised fully going at it. I was too busy laughing at her for a moment to correct but eventually did and she stopped. I stayed put for a while and sure enough she tried once more and i corrected immediately and she stopped and didn't bother again.
I just found it hilarious cause shes never done that before - maybe shes got sun stroke lol

Re: Coooooooooooooooooooooow
Was out walking 2-3 months ago and came to the cow field and had to get through , boss cow decided to follow us to make sure we knew we weren't welcome , Tommy was interested. Ended up the whole lot went with us to the other end of the track / field thing , got through the gate and there was just a mass of cows hanging over the gate , and Tommy ten men wanting to sort em out . Another couple followed us through about 5 mins later so when the cows spread we legged it back . Tilly was just Tilly

Re: Coooooooooooooooooooooow
I've never had experience of walking dogs though cattle.
However, I do remember from way back that cattle are curious creatures and will come on over and investigate anything that interests them.
It goes without saying on this forum that none of us would allow our dogs to run around cattle.
The thing to remember when walking an on-lead (obviously) dog through a field of cattle is that they WILL be interested! But I would humbly suggest that you take note of what type of cattle you are intending to walk through.
Dairy cows (big udders) are normally fairly placid - nosy, but placid. Unless they have calves with them, unusual these days but not unheard of, in which case do NOT enter the field - the cows will protect their calves from any perceived threat. If you see a bull in the field, even without cows but most particularly with - enter the field only if you have a death wish!
In raising cattle for beef areas you will come across fields of 2-or-so year old bullocks and heifers, often mixed together. They are teenagers, and up for a laugh! They will crowd round to investigate you and your dog and may be intimidating - only "wanting to play"! But they are on a hiding to nothing, so be wary - they can trample!
Just be aware, and be careful out there!

Re: Coooooooooooooooooooooow
there are a few on a walk we do with calfs and you can see by there body language when you get close if they arnt happy. had to do a bit of a detour other day as the dogs wanted to play with the "big dogs" but the big dogs didnt look to happy about it.
have you seen in the news where that poor lass was knocked over repeatedly and rolled on by the cows trying to crush her? she let her dog go as you should but they kept going at her until she crwaled under an electric fence. some midwife down south somewhere, just shows how carefull you have to be and keep an eye out for any sign of distress to the livestock.

Re: Coooooooooooooooooooooow
I once landed a parachute in a field full of cows strangest experience of my life it was like a game of grandmothers footsteps every time I turned to see where they were there were more of them but they would freeze and look away they were creepily quiet too.
I now try and avoid them with Ledger

ah, so not as butt clenching as being in the middle of them all. I really dont like walking through them with a dog at all, especially marley as he whines at them which im sure riles them up.
