Post by julespercules Sun Jul 07 2013, 15:54

Hi all,

very rare for us in old blighty to have hot hot hot weather, but it seems like its here for a couple of weeks. What can I do for my lovely tash to make sure she stays cool in this beautiful weather.

We walk her early and late when its a lot cooler and she has plenty of water on offer and access to both indoors and outdoors so can choose but any other ideas on keeping her cool

I think that's all we can do, I have invested in a paddling pool and Vin does go in it so at least he can cool down through his paws.Big Grin

I saw this on fb and thought great! They had an ice cream tub, filled it with water and put some toys in then froze it! What a great idea! Wish I had a garden!

Hubby and me are seriously considering a paddling pool for Rocky, we only have a small courtyard garden so will have to make sure there is room for it first.

Daisy hates water or I would get her a paddling pool!!

Not sure if she's just tired from spending the day with Bailey yesterday or if the heats getting to her but she seems a bit out of sorts today Sad

I tried that this afternoon, she wasn't interested! She can be funny with things she's not used to.

She just doesn't seem herself somehow Sad Probably partly to do with the heat but also she spent the day with Bailey yesterday and they were still playing when Em brought her home about half 7 last night so she may just be a bit worn out.

Aww poor daisy Sad hope she's back to normal soon. We use a shammy leather on walks, we soak it and give darcy a good rub down to cool her of Smile

Probably a mixture of both, Moo goes into a small depression if she has spent some time with a play mate. They soon bounce back Smile XxX

Dogs generally are pretty good at finding the coolest parts of the house and will lie spread-eagled on a cool lino or tiled floor. If she looks distressed by the heat, try soaking a towel in cold water (from the mains supply, not the roof tank), wring it out quickly and wipe around her ears and top of the head, along her belly and between her hind legs, then remove the towel. The cold dampness should help remove her excess body heat. Note - don't put ice cubes in the water, as very cold water is counter-productive and produces a rush of heat to the surface of the skin, which makes it feel worse!

Thanks guys I'm sure she'll be fine, I did think about wiping her down with a wet cloth earlier. Will try that next time, although she'll hate me for it!! Laughing
